What: Compadres - the rating says it all - it's 8.5K the hard way, with tons of rambunctious cross-country desert rumblin' & stumblin' in between. Wiggle your watusi up, down, and all around muchachos as we bag these 5 desert peaks: Villager Peak (5,756'), Mile High (5,386'), Rosa Point (5,038'), Pyramid Peak (3,500'), Palm / Traveler's Peak (2,700'), with one really good slot canyon thrown in after dark in what will be a very looooooooong desert day hike! ANDALE!! We'll finish our hike in the dark underneath a beautiful full moon "spotlight" after enjoying great 360 degree views including of the entire nearby Salton Sea during the day. Notes: (1.) If you don't want to do the whole enchilada, you can always join us for any part of it as long as you're comfortable in finding your own way out (for example: just do Villager Peak up & back =' s 13 miles / 4,800' gain (70% with us, last bit on your own); or do a bit more - whatever your taste is); & (2.) we'll need to set-up a short car shuttle at the "trailhead" when we get out there (it's all on paved roads so any car is ok). See some pics of this hike below:

Details: this hike is estimated to be approx. 22 cross-country (no trails) desert miles / with around 8,500' elevation gain or so. Estimated hiking time: approx. 6:45 AM - 9:45 PM with a short car shuttle. Optional dinner stop afterwards at the the Taco Shop in Borrego Springs for those interested (only place still open then).

Bring: a minimum of 6 - 7 quarts or liters of H2O with electrolytes (you may need more like 7 or 8 if you drink a lot normally as it will be 10 or more degrees warmer than usual this Sat.) - a couple of bottles to drop for 1.5 - 2 hrs to lighten your load, snacks to eat while moving, lunch for the peaks, layers (light jacket or fleece, beanie, gloves, etc), hat / sunglasses / sunscreen, headlamp or light with fresh batteries for our after dark finish, first aid, poles, gaiters, plastic comb & pointy tweezers for getting any cactus out, etc. Pre-hydrate by drinking Friday & again Sat. in the AM & also on the drive out. Basically be prepared to "beat the heat" as it will be warm out this Sat.

My hiking style: we'll stay together as a group for both camaraderie & safety; we snack & drink while we move except for short bathroom breaks as necessary; I'll take 15 min. or so breaks at the peaks to eat "real" food / sign registers / enjoy the view but nothing too long; I prefer to hike at a bit faster then average pace if possible depending on what the group can do since we have a very long day so we'll need to keep moving steadily along.
