We will be going to Windy Gap and some of the surrounding mountains, including Islip, Powell & Ross in about 20-24 miles 'n change...
Allow for about all day 'n change, as the crow flies...
Due to the length of this trail: it is NOT recommended for beginners.
This is an uncharted trail with a 'no summit clause' attached.
lf the trail is closed, washed out, no longer exists, has been excommunicated; etc... we will look for other routes...
However, summiting is not guaranteed on this route.
There will be several miles of steep uncharted ridgeline where we make our own trail...
Then we will take the easier way back... maybe...
Read the complete write up...
Most, if not all, of your questions can be answered here...
There will be no:
• Having your nose wiped for you.
• Coddling
• Cooing
• Hand holding ( unless you { you in the 3rd person } are a couple, plan to be a couple; etc...)
A couple of what has yet to be determined...
If it rains... dust storm, water spout, etc... we are still on...
There is a lot to see and will be sudden & frequent stops for print making, so don't forget to bring a camera...
Waitlist:
Your name, rank & horsepower will be looked at once you get on the waitlist.
Basically this means your attendance and credentials will be reviewed.
Climbing Mt. Whitney 10 years ago does not qualify one as ready for an advanced trail.
Those self described as 'avid' does not mean once a month on a trail or collecting pocket lint; well, maybe collecting pocket lint...
If you like to argue; have too many 'not goings' and/or 'no shows' or the continued bad form to ditch an event you are currently listed on & then jump onto another event you like better: the waitlist will be your trail for this event.
Acceptance:
I do not live in or on cybertron.
Should you decide to get on the waitlist; I will eventually see you in the waiting room...
Do NOT write me letters pleading your case, bragging your credentials or speak for anyone else.
Most of you I know; either in person or by reputation.
So, if you have been on some of my heavier trails; have excellent credentials, are in good standing; etc... you're in: for the most part.
If you are in other clubs this event is listed in, it's to your benefit to join in that club also.
This will give you credit for the trail in all clubs listed as well as establish credentials in other clubs should other organizers in those clubs look at your history...
It may be a good idea to come to some of my heavier San Gabriel trails, if we haven't met on the trail. This way you can test your medicine as well as get some training in...
So it is written, so it shall be.
We will be out in it so you will want to load heavy...
Drink-e-poo:
Bring at least 4 quarts of water, more if you like...
We are in no hurry.
This does NOT mean we will snail crawl or take 6 hour breaks...
Leave your 8 track players at home.
There will be plenty to hear in the surrounding forest... work the crowd and talk to others in the group...
... & since we are going at the same time...the idea being we stay together; as much as possible, as a group...
Chew toys:
Be sure to bring a hat, to wear, not to eat.
The eating of one's own hat; or anyone else's for that matter, is considered bad form.
Bring at least one gallon of water, more if you like & something to chew on... (do not chew on your nails {see eating one's own hat description above}...).
Peanut Butter Cups or See's Chocolate See Gars are more than acceptable to bring and chew on !!!
(... anytime of the day...)
Do NOT sink your fangs into anyone else's neck or anywhere else for that matter. This is also considered bad form & should be avoided.
Getting There:
From hwy 210 east: exit Azusa Ave (hwy 39) and turn north towards the mountains.
From 210 west: exit Azusa Ave (hwy 39) and you will be on 1st St.
The turns are short: Turn left; then turn right at the light.
Or:
210 west: exit Azusa and you will be on 1st St. Continue straight on Alameda Ave.
Turn left at the first stop sign, which is 2nd St.
You are now heading west on 2nd St. Turn right at the first stop sign, which is Azusa, and continue straight into the mountains...
Follow Azusa (hwy 39) for about 26 miles 'til you see the sign for Crystal Lake.
Turn right at Crystal Lake and follow the road for about 2 miles.
If you happen to pass the turn off; you will know it as there will be a gate blocking the road ahead.
Just past the cafe & ranger station, the car park is just over a 1/4 of a mile on your right.
Grab a place to park, the car park is a large paved flat area. The trail head is just across the road.
The Cheap Seats:
Necessary facilities are available at the trail head...
PARKING:
There is plenty of parking in the car park.
We will meet at the trailhead at 7:15 am and start at 7:30 am.
The fine print:
Do NOT bring your dogs, cats, canaries, javeline, drama, +1’s or other pets.
No whining, sassing or throwing looks.
Leave your job at work or at home.
Do NOT push real estate/refinance and/or try to sell soap to the group.
You will have about 10 minutes to complain about work, politics & current affairs... After that; enjoy the scenery...
I will take your confession(s) as necessary... after that; enjoy the scenery...
Scamming & laying it on thick:
If anyone wants to get someone's phone number, be cordial about it.
Do NOT start at one end of the conga line & work your way to the other end and/or lay it on thick.
This is considered bad form & should be avoided.
If the individual concerned is NOT interested: give it a rest.
Rules of the road & proper etiquette:
Walking, up hill has the right of way; downhill yields to uphill.
Runners, yield to all walkers & horses.
Bikes, yield to all walkers & horses.
Horses have right of way on all accounts.
Showing off:
Getting to the top first or being the fastest on the trail: no one cares.
It's about the experience, scenery & friends...
Straying from the purer faith:
If you decide to go off on your own: you will be on your own.
Let someone know should you decide to bow out early...
