A Half Day in Ice House Canyon to Bighorn Peak

Details

UP THE TRAIL TIME: 6:45 AM

DISTANCE: 7-Miles RT

GAIN: ~3,400’

DIFFICULTY: Moderate to Semi-Easy

NO ANSWER THE PESKY QUESTIONS; NO GO ON BEAUTIFUL HIKE

ABOUT THIS HIKE: It’s up the yak trail to Ice House then a turn towards Cucamonga Peak to big rear end downed tree and up the Bighorn’s east ridge.

As we make our way up the Ice House, we will take a look at both Compromise and KTKT Canyons to determine the route back.

It’s been warm for a while and I do not know how much snow is up there but there should be enough cover the rocks.

REQUIRED: Crampons and ice axe

RECOMMENDED: Microspikes and trekking poles

OPTIONAL: GPS…if you are new to the GPS world bring it and your maps. I’ll give you a very short lesson on its use

DIRECTIONS: From the I-210 Mountain Ave. exit in Upland, go north through San Antonio Heights until Mountain Ave. intersects Euclid Ave. then go left. Cross the bridge over San Antonio Creek then make a right onto Mt. Baldy Rd. Continue on Mt. Baldy Rd. through the village, past the fish ponds to Icehouse Canyon Rd., where you turn right. The location of the parking lot is self-evident.

WHOM DO I SUE: This is not an official organization chartered to make certain any level of safety greater when you venture into the Wilderness by your lonesome, if you want something like that seek out the Sierra Club with their rules, regulations and signed waivers of liability. Do not expect organizer(s) to check the qualifications of anyone you are hiking or climbing with. Any questions asked of you when you sign up is to ensure the organizer(s) safety, nothing more. If you have doubts about going on this particular meetup, you should find someone you trust, go alone or choose not to participate.
