Hiking Around Baltimore (HAB)

Enjoy a nice walk up a valley with a running stream and a nice view of Garret's Pass, trails near Landing Rd and the Valley of Cascade Falls.

Directions from 95 East or West: Take the I 195 exit toward BWI Airport, then take Rt 1 South (1st exit). Take the 1st Right on South St and in two blocks make a left into the park. Go through the entrance ($3 charge) and follow the road to a T. Make a left at the T and go about 2 - 3 miles to the parking lot by the swinging bridge. Park on Left Hand Side.

Enjoy a scenic hike in Lake Roland that includes views of the Lake and groomed trails beyond.

Optional: Pepe's Restaurant after the hike located at 6081 Falls Rd within a block of the exit from the Light Rail Station. Very good food at a reasonable price. Order from the counter. Diverse menu.

From I-695 -> Exit 23 (Falls Road) Follow to the first light at Joppa Road and make a left back onto Falls Rd heading south. Continue on Falls Rd and make a left at the Falls Rd Light Rail Station and park on the lot.

Walk beside a stream with scenic views of water cascading over rocks. A few hills and a nice valley. We hike to a Scenic Overlook of Patapsco Park and River and view an area where trains emerge from the tunnels.

Directions from I695:

Take I695 Exit 13 Frederick Ave West towards Catonsville. In a few miles, take a left at South Rolling Rd (Light). In 100 yards, take a right at the fork to Hilton Ave. Proceed on Hilton for about 1.5 miles and take a right into the park entrance. Take the first right turn to shelter 245 and park on the lot.

Directions from Old Town Ellicott City:

Take Frederick Rd from Old Town EC for a few miles and make a right on South Rolling Road (Light). Note: you will pass North Rolling Road (Do not turn there!). In 100 yards, take a right at the fork to Hilton Ave. Proceed on Hilton for about 1.5 miles and take a right into the park entrance. Take the first right turn to shelter 245 and park on the lot.

Let's walk/hike to the Christmas Tree, Lights & Fireworks @ The National Harbor

Come join us on an easy-moderate approx 8-9+/- mile 243 ft elevation gain 2.5 mph walk from Alexandria, starting at Jones Point Park. We will walk along the water in Alexandria, then walk across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the National Harbor located in Maryland (Oxen Hill).

We will eat dinner (bring your own or there are many take-out places) at the National Harbor (you can pick your own place to get food). I am bringing my own food and I plan on eating outside by the tree & harbor. You are welcome to join me. But if you are cold there are several restaurants with indoor dining.

We will enjoy the daytime views of Alexandria, DC and the National Harbor from the bridge. Then we will enjoy the sunset, and the lights at the National Harbor. At 5:30 they light the 60 foot Christmas Tree adorned with over 2,000,000 twinkling Christmas lights. Following the lighting of the tree, there will be a fireworks show as well. When that is done, we will start to head back to our cars and enjoy the lighted views of the National Harbor, Alexandria and DC. We should be done and in our cars by 7pm (But plan for 730pm just in case.

BRING WATER, & HEADLAMP OR FLASHLIGHT

WEAR SNEAKERS or any hiking shoes, your choice. (I am wearing sneakers)

DRESS WARM-BE PREPARED AS THE TEMPERATURE WILL DROP AS THE SUN SETS & AS WE WALK BACK ACROSS THE BRIDGE. And there is always wind as you walk across the bridge AND IT CAN BE COLD!!!
