Hike Cromwell Valley Park then into Loch Raven with post hike lunch

Yep, it's a repeat of last week's hike. But it's a good one and definitely doable even with a little snow on the ground. Also, nobody else has anything scheduled for this day so why not? :)

Look for the sign for Willow Grove Farm. The parking lot is about 500 feet from the road. The address above is correct but Google maps drops you about 1/8 mile North of the entrance to the park.

Let's explore an area that I am just learning to appreciate. This park and the adjoining Loch Raven system have some great trails, views of the reservoir and the dam, and a variety of wildlife. Also, the park is super close to the city and easy to get to. So let's explore!

We'll hike a 6-8 total mile out-and-back trail that I'd call an easy side of moderate difficulty. The hills are <100 feet climbs in most cases. The terrain has your typical roots and rocks to maneuver around plus a few minor stream crossings. This is not a paved trail. We'll maintain a pace of about 2.5 to 3 mph. We will step off EXACTLY at 10:30. If you are late or have any problems on the trail, txt or call me at 301-6five5-5327. Otherwise there is no grace period.

This is a rain or shine event. The recent cold weather will likely have snow on the trail and icy spots. Good hiking boots are a must. Microspikes in your pack are a definite plus. I just got these and they work great. http://www.rei.com/product/774966/kahtoola-microspikes-traction-system

Dogs are welcome but they must be well behaved and on lead at all times. For lunch let's go to Mc Faul's Ironhorse Tavern! Huge beer selection and great food.
