"Rational Yoga and Meditation"
The set of philosophies and practices that were developed over centuries in India known as 'yoga' has, in recent decades, gathered interest in the United States. This talk will provide a general overview of what yoga is and isn't, clarify some misperceptions and confusion surrounding it, and explore potential benefits and dangers of yogic practices for physical and mental well-being. We'll also discuss how to navigate the array of styles and classes available, should you decide to incorporate yoga into your life.
Mary Beaton began practicing yoga in 2003 to alleviate depression, anxiety and back pain. She completed 200-hour certification at Balanced Yoga in 2011 and is currently enrolled in 500-hour certification at Yoga on High, where she studies yogic philosophy, asana (posture-based practice), pranayama (breath practice ) and yoga nidra meditation.
