Humanist Monthly Program: How Curiosity Kills a Seminary Faculty Position

Details
The Bible says that the “truth shall set you free,” but often the casualties of truth-seeking are faculty members in religious higher education. What happens when a seminary professor's truth-seeking leads him to become a secular humanist? Professor Brandon Withrow discovered he had to choose between his full-time faculty position and his conscience, leading him to leave his job behind. He blames curiosity, but he wouldn’t change a thing.
Bio: Brandon G. Withrow is adjunct lecturer in religious studies at The University of Findlay (Ohio), editor at The Curious Ape (thecuriousape.com), and author of nine books. He is most-recently co-author (with Menachem Wecker) of “Consider No Evil: Two Faith Traditions and the Problem of Academic Freedom in Religious Higher Education” (2014).
