Columbus Rationality - Who cares about the future?

  • May 16 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

**This meeting (and all on 3rd Mondays) will be held UPSTAIRS in the HCCO/SSA office suite at W200**

Having a long term orientation is important in achieving your goals and life purposes, yet hyperbolic discounting leads us to a short term orientation resulting in poor choices and procrastination.

To be truly successful in life we need to expand the time horizon we are comfortable operating over.

Jeff Walker will help us understand the human bias toward the short term and how it applies to us as we attempt to achieve our goals.
Then we'll try to expand our time orientation by envisioning and discussing a project well beyond the scope we normally think about, the 10,000 year clock.

Finally, he'll offer suggestions of other techniques you can employ to engage long term orientation in pursuit of your goals and purpose.

Rationality is about the science of reasoning, and acting effectively to meet your goals.

We generally begin with introductions and socializing at 7:30 and the program starts at 7:45.

Parental Warning: We are a very casual group. There is some swearing and discussion of mature issues.

Here's the video I mentioned at the meeting. This was a presentation at Columbus Rationality a couple of years ago offering a step-by-step guide for setting and achieving long-term goals, including creating a written goal tree document http://intentionalinsights.org/video-3-steps-to-getting-what-you-want (This content was developed for Intentional Insights www.intentionalinsights.org, co-founded by me and Gleb.)
