What we’re about
Do you like to try new foods - and share with friends? We host meetups that are not too big .. so people can get acquainted and get to know one another!
Do you prefer restaurants with local charm over the big chain restaurants? Do you enjoy traditional dishes from different countries and cultures? Do you like to cook - or at least do you like sharing what others have prepared - we have many kinds of "participants" in our group! Are you willing to try new dishes, seasonings, or preparations at least once?
Meet locally with like-minded people who like to cook, eat and share friendship over a good meal, pot-luck, bbq, or an occasional game of cards with appetizers - this group is for you! Dine out, trade recipes/tips/ideas, go to classes or presentations about food, gardening, wine pairing, teas, or just about anything that has to do with food and drink, maybe even travel to food festivals that are nearby!
For our restaurant Meetups, separate checks or cash for your share plus tip are the norm. Sometimes, depending on the restaurant, we may dine family-style. Suggestions are welcomed! Assistant organizers - please feel free to volunteer for this innovative and important role!
Please be sure to RSVP if you are attending, and change your YES to a NO if you have a last-minute change of plans. We will have a "three strikes rule," meaning if you RSVP Yes to events and no-show three times (without a valid excuse) you will be removed from the group.
There is usually no charge for our events but occasionally there might be a fee to pay up-front to cover costs or a refundable deposit to hold your seat. Please note that payment "per event" is usually non-refundable as the hosts are already purchasing supplies. Thanks for your understanding.

BOOK CLUB (November) - American Dirt
Dale's home, will be sent to YES rsvps, Upland, ca, USAmerican Dirt, by Jeanine Cummins
We will have a guest speaker from ALAS, a non-profit organization based here in California [https://www.alasdreams.com/programs-immigration]
The author, Jeanine Cummins, is a white girl from New York. In light of this, there is controversy over the book's popularity (#1 New York Times bestseller), such as whether someone with actual lived experience fleeing a Mexican cartel would have more legitimacy to author such a work. Your opinion on this and other well-researched yet fictionalized topics covered in the book are welcomed!
What one reader says about this book:
"I found it to be riveting, informative, suspenseful, heartbreaking and hard to put down . It’s 400 pages and I read it in two days. It’s the harrowing journey of migrants from Mexico, running for their lives, not to find a better life with more opportunity, but running to save their lives. There’s so much out there on this, you can easily find enough on the plot and characters, so I’m not going to talk about those here. I will say that the grief, the fear, the uncertainty, what people will do to save their loved ones and themselves was impactful. I found the last third of the book especially gripping."13 attendees
BOOK CLUB - John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs
Dale's home, will be sent to YES rsvps, Upland, ca, USJohn & Paul: A Love Story in Songs, by Ian Leslie ** book itself is a little pricey, but readily available at local libraries (might be a waitlist, so sign up with your local library!)
Some reviewers suggested listening to the songs highlighted in each of the chapters: https://open.spotify.com/search/beatles
Goodreads (4.4):
"Brilliant! Leslie’s deeply researched part biography, part musical critique is emotional and deeply immersive: I felt like I was living John and Paul’s experiences and I found myself enraptured by their dynamic relationship. ... I’d say they are soulmates– connected on a very deep level. ... I can assure you – this is a fascinating and absorbing read for music lovers, history buffs, and people interested in pop-culture as well."“A love story is accurate in several ways. John and Paul seem to be enraptured with each other. But this is also a love story about anyone who connected with The Beatles; their music, their movement, their songwriting process."
As always, a light dinner will be served. Please feel free to bring appetizers, salad, dessert to share if you wish.
