KCDesignCore March 2013: Edge Animate — Deep Dive with Tom Green

It's official! Tom Green will joining us live as our instructor for the evening from Toronto. You may know Tom from the D2W conferences, or Adobe TV, or his many articles about Edge including one of my favorites, "Has Adobe Gotten Its Mojo Back?"

We'll learn more about Edge Animate; how it works, types of assets you can use with it, and how to roll out an HTML5-compatible animation <div> once the animation is complete.

Add motion to graphics and HTML elements with amazing accuracy, thanks to the innovative timeline editor in Edge Animate. Edit property-based keyframes and use enhanced easing equations for precise control, or use the Pin tool to help speed up the animation process...Create your designs on a WebKit-based stage so your compositions have fidelity across modern browsers. Design with an assortment of familiar styling options and effects to create engaging HTML content.

Publish with options such as emitting HTML markup for SEO friendliness, choosing whether jQuery should be packaged with the project, or adding a preloader to specify what should be shown before the project is downloaded.

Build compositions from scratch using drawing and text tools, and manipulate objects with an array of transformation and styling options. You can also import a variety of web graphics such as SVG, JPEG, PNG, and GIF files.

I enjoyed it! In my job I used Flash everyday, but I can see my employer integrating Edge Animate for some of their projects if it gains more features and popularity.

I've got some edge work I've been doing as well. There is some great stuff with the play from and stop and commands that I've found some success with. I'm trying to figure out some sound stuff with it but it looks like it takes some hand coding.
