Let's Plan your KCDesignCore Adobe Community Experience in 2012!

This year we are hoping to make KC DesignCore the best Adobe user group around, so how do we do that?

First up is by listening to our members!

So for our first In-person meeting of the year I would love everyone to come with at least one topic idea that you would like to learn more about and -- if you want extra bonus credit -- a potential speaker on this topic. You know what you want to learn, and you probably know someone who's pretty good at it. So bring both with you!

Some ideas to get you thinking:

Upgrade paths to CS6 and the Creative Cloud; who's on first?
What's next for Flash, if anything?
Designing for touch: best practices
Is Adobe Edge for me?
Using perspective grid in Illustrator
Using InDesign to create iPad apps

There are a few meetings already planned for 2012 (for instance, we will be heavily involved in this summer's D2W conference). This summer, we'll have our annual Photo Walk but we need to figure out the best place. Let's round out the schedule with your valuable input! So please bring your ideas; we will supply paper so they can be written down and shared.

We would like to open the floor to show and tell, as well as just general discussion on where the visual design world is headed, what skills are currently valued by employers, and what's the coolest thing you have worked on lately.

We will be meeting a new contact from our generous sponsor, TekSystems, and as always, dinner is provided. We have some new books from Pearson, O'Reilly, and Focal Press to give away; Adobe has also hooked us up with some new "Create" t-shirts and other goodies.

Several new people have joined lately, so let's find out what they want out of the group too. We look forward to seeing you on on the first Thursday, February 2, at 7:00pm at JCCC (room number to be announced). Come with your creative planning ideas!

Super-helpful group, full of ideas for the coming year. We're now in the wonderful position of having to "trim down the brainstorm list" to fit the calendar, and that's exactly where we needed to be. Thanks everyone for your thoughtful topics and suggestions!

We had a great meeting, with some very good ideas suggested for meeting topics for the rest of the year. I'm looking forward to getting the juices flowing next month with "Caffeine for the Creative Mind" and the rest of the year promises some awesome information for all! :)

Our group was founded in 2007 as one of four official Adobe groups in Kansas City. We're designers, developers, digital photographers, freelancers, producers, in-house corporate marketing types, and interested students of all ages — focusing mostly on visually-oriented products in the entire Adobe Creative Suite with a strong emphasis on Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, and Flash. NO program is off-limits, though...if it's visual, we'll talk about it!

We meet on the FIRST THURSDAY of every month at JCCC (12345 College Bvld., Overland Park, KS 66210) on the 2nd floor of the Regnier Technology Center next to the new museum. Check the monitors in the hallways for exact room location as it changes monthly.

Our primary local sponsor, TEK Systems, provides our members with plenty of Kansas City-based employment opportunities for user experience designers, ActionScript coders, and other positions in contract and contract-to-hire positions. They are a generous sponsor of our group and have been for many years.

Adobe provides us with great presentations, speakers, and prizes. If you're a regular participant in our group, you're very likely to take home some fantastic goodies. Twice a year, we are authorized to give away an entire Adobe Creative Suite package (CS5.5 Web Premium, CS5.5 Design Premium, CS5.5 Production Premium) valued at up to $2,100. Throughout the year we have books, t-shirts, software, and evaluation items for our members...these giveaways are based on your attendance and participation.

Whether you're just starting out with the Adobe Creative Suite or you're an experienced designer, we look forward to welcoming you to our community. It's a lot of fun and nobody walks away empty-handed!
