More about this summer season event: In addition to taking our Outdoor Adventure Group hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, Zipfy riding, camping, adventure traveling, etc. we also take our group kayaking and stand up paddle surfing. I store several of my sit-on-top, flat-water kayaks and stand up paddle boards at the lake during the summer months so we can get on the water more quickly, more often. I offer several outings during the summer months so I hope you will join us!
Who is invited? You must be a member of Live and Thrive Outdoor Adventure Group. If you are not a member, no worries. Join today! It's fast and easy. Pay online or pay me in person via cash or check. Cost is $35/person for 12 full months of membership. As a MEMBER, you receive invitations to join us for 350+ outdoor adventure outings each year. Membership benefits include up to FIVE kayak/stand up paddle board outings per year, which includes equipment i.e. kayak, stand up paddle board, paddles, life jacket, and instruction as needed. For those who choose to attend more than 5 kayaking/stand up paddle surfing events, pay another $35 membership. You won't find a better value anywhere!!
What else is required: For your own safety and the enjoyment of others in the group, you are required to stay in a designated area of the reservoir. This is a large reservoir with plenty of jet skis and speed boats flying by. Three buoys mark the border of our bay area that we stay within. Winds and strong water currents are another factor why we stay within the buoys where we can see our members at all times. We set up "camp" on the beach and depending on those who attend, we rotate all watercraft. You also agree to abide by basic water safety rules for your protection and the protection and safety of others. These rules will be reviewed at the lake. If you have any concerns about the water or the watercraft, please tell me in advance if possible. If you own a personal life jacket, bring it, otherwise we'll provide one for you. RSVP is required to attend this event. Everyone's help carrying the watercraft equipment from our dry storage area down to the water and then back up again before leaving is greatly appreciated and needed, so thank you in advance.
Want to be in the loop, hearing about all future Kayak and SUP outings? TEXT me at[masked]-5313. State in your message who you are and that you want to be added to the KAYAK and SUP Text Message List. In addition, I'll post outings on my MEETUP SITE and on my Liveandthrive.com Calendar.
What to bring: A swim suit or clothes that can get wet, a camp chair or yoga pad to sit on, an additional set of clothes, towel, water bottle, sunglasses, life jacket (optional), food to share with the group. Wear what you feel most comfortable in. Keep all items in your car until the boats are taken down to the water.
Where to go: DEER CREEK ISLAND RESORT. There are TWO main entrances in to Deer Creek State Park. One is closer to Provo Canyon, one is closer to Heber.
Enter Deer Creek Island Resort closest to Heber.
All of my watercraft is stored throughout the summer at Deer Creek Reservoir which means this is the only place we are kayaking and stand up paddle surfing from June 1 through September 1. Since this is a state park, there are plenty of quality bathrooms, water, beach and shaded picnic areas nearby. Since we are down on the beach close to the water, we bring our own canopies or umbrellas. Since this is a STATE PARK it requires an entrance fee of $10/vehicle which may include up to 8 people/vehicle. To avoid paying this fee each time, consider car pooling with us, either from Salt Lake OR at a dirt parking lot located 1/4 mile outside of the park. Tell me in advance so you know where to meet up with us.
Carpool with us! There are two ways to carpool and avoid additional entrance fees. 1) Before leaving the Salt Lake valley and heading into Parleys Canyon, we meet up with members at the "3900 South Wasatch Blvd, UTA Park n Ride parking lot" at 4 PM. Contact me in advance if you want a ride. 2) For those who live closer to Provo Canyon, let me know and I'll try to connect you with others going that direction. 3) Before entering the Deer Creek Island Resort, there is a dirt parking lot just off the main highway, between Heber and the Resort, but within 1/4 mile of Deer Creek Island Resort entrance. If you are driving alone or have just a few people in your car and want to carpool into the park, make sure you contact me by 4 PM so we have someone stop and pick you up. You need to be there at the Dirt parking lot by 5 PM if you want a ride inside. You may be asked to pay a small portion of the entrance fees rather than the full $10.
How many attend each event: Every week it varies. Every week it is SUPER FUN!! It's fun to meet new people, eat delicious food and spend an evening with people who love being outdoors relaxing on the water or the beach! I currently have enough watercraft to accommodate 12 people on the water at any given time.
WARNING: Don't make the mistake of basing your decision on whether to come to one of my events, on what the RSVP numbers state, since you will be wrong every time. It is ALWAYS inaccurate for this and every event I post. Meetup is just one of several websites or ways people find out about my events.
When: Most outings are offered on a Saturday evening when the water and wind is calmer. I take people hiking on Saturday mornings so the next best time is in the evening.
How long: We arrive at 5 PM and stay until the sun goes down behind the mountain. This changes weekly since the days are getting longer or shorter. It takes a little time getting the boats down to the water so generally we could boating from 5:30 - 8 PM.
