For this event, you must register with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy instead of on this Meetup page to receive exact instructions to the location.

The farm’s brushy, scrubby intermediate habitat, bordered by mature forests, is home to many thicket-loving bird species. This group will also visit a nearby large farm, which includes a large lake and extensive fields. Limit 12.

- Celebrate Birds: Big Sit at Algonkian ParkNeeds location
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is excited to be partnering with NOVA Parks and the Virginia Society of Ornithology for a Big Sit at Algonkian Regional Park.
What is a Big Sit?
Some people have compared it to a tailgate party for birders. We will set up in one stationary location and see how many species we can count from that spot. At our last Big Sit we saw 59 species. This spring we believe we have a good chance of beating that number.
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in birding from beginner to advanced. If you’re new to birding, you can learn more about it and meet other birders. If you’re an experienced birder, bring your skills and help us ID some species. This is a stationary location, so it’s great for people who aren’t interested in a long bird walk. Plus, we’ll be there all day, so it’s great for those who prefer to sleep late.
Details
We will be set up just west of the boat ramp with views of the river, a wildflower meadow, a grassy field, a wooded tree line and wide open sky. It is also close to the parking lot. (View location.) We will be there from 6:00am – 8:00pm to count as many bird species as we can see or hear. You can stop by for a few minutes to say hi or bring a chair and stay as long as you like. No registration required.
In case of inclement weather cancellation information will be posted on the Loudoun Wildlife Facebook page.

For this event, you must register with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy instead of on this Meetup page.
Join Join Dori Rhodes, Jane Yocom and John Denice at this wonderful nature preserve which was established in 1999. In addition to a mile of Goose Creek frontage, Banshee has a great diversity of habitats on its 695 acres ranging from wetlands and ponds to mixed hardwood forests of oak and hickory to wonderful meadows laden with milkweed, goldenrod, and thistle, all supportive of a great deal of wildlife. Numerous trails wind their way through these various habitats and are great for birding. Bring binoculars if you have them

- Celebrate Birds: Algonkian ParkAlgonkian Regional Park, Sterling, VA
Join the Virginia Society of Ornithology and Loudoun Wildlife for a morning field trip at Algonkian Regional Park led by Patrick Lewis and Phil Kenny that will last for approximately four hours. Algonkian is Loudoun’s top birding hotspot and during peak migration can yield well over 60 species in a morning, including over a dozen warblers.
We will meet at the Volcano Island Waterpark parking lot inside the park. Please plan to arrive before the walk starts at 8:00 am. Trip leaders will be at the meeting location by 7:30 am. The trip will be entirely on foot. Please wear walking shoes and be prepared to walk up to four miles. If it has rained in the few days prior to the walk, assume trails will be muddy. We plan to cover the Waterpark Area and most (or all) of the Woodlands Trail. Limit 35. Registration required through the Virginia Society of Ornithology.
Directions and Parking:
Regardless of which direction you are traveling from to Algonkian Park, you will need to take Algonkian Parkway (State Road 1582) northbound to Cascades Parkway. Take Cascades Parkway north, and you will enter Algonkian Park after 500 meters; Cascades Parkway becomes Fairway Drive. Continue driving until you come to the first road on the left. Turn left, then make a right into the parking lot, where we will park and meet. (View location.) There are no entrance fees or parking permits for Algonkian Park.
