Lobstercon VII:  The Seventh Wonder

The seventh instalment of our biannual seaside gaming event will be held Easter weekend 2014, at our regular venue, the York House Hotel in Eastbourne.

Update:  2 Feb 2014

Invitations have now been sent out to the 65 LoBsters with the most attendances who'd RSVP'd before 31 Jan.  A waiting list has been created for those who RSVP'd but didn't make the cutoff for attendances.  If/when spots are opened up, they will have first refusal on new slots.

If you would still like to come, you may now join the waiting list, but you will be behind all those who RSVP'd earlier.

General Notes:

For this weekend, we again have use of two gaming rooms, starting on Friday morning.  However, on Easter Monday, the smaller gaming room will be unavailable to us, but we will still have use of the basement room until 5:00 p.m. that day.

The Hotel has reserved 30 bedrooms for our group to book at the special conference rate, which you can get only by booking directly with the hotel.  If the hotel tell you they have no more rooms available, PLEASE contact me and I will try to sort something out with the hotel.  The reason we are getting use of these two function rooms for free is because most of us stay at the hotel itself, so please try to book your rooms at the York House Hotel itself.

someone also utilised my camera to take a bunch of photos of "the game that cannot be named".. most of you were caught enviously watching us playing and now you're ashamed to admit it! :p
BK - i can drop you those pics privately ;)

Had a look round the web. There was someone who already had one. I think he is contactable. I'm gonna make my own rough and ready homemade version I think. To keep me going til they release a version over the summer.

One short of racking up a round 50 games! Thanks to everyone for an awesome time, and especially to Jeff as ever. (who's doing the geek list? :))

Anyone else buying games and/or organising events to fill the gaping hole that now feels like it's appearing in their soul? :)

    1 · April 21, 2014

    • Lloyd

I've bought Big City since getting home. I'd have bought Mushroom Eaters too, but it'd be easier to learn to fly instead.

I too have a longer list now, really I should stop playing new games!

Good times :) Didn't play enough games, with enough people, but still had a blast - thanks to all who taught me new games, and all who beat me at old ones!

Are there games still going on?

    April 18, 2014

Another excellent session of board games on the South Coast. The venue was fantastic, if a little cold on the first day. I lost count the amount of games I played, but most of them I found to be thoroughly entertaining. I know the darling of this Lobstercon was Wildcatters, but after playing it on the last day I discovered it wasn't at all for me.

    4 · April 21, 2014

  • Bijmeister

Supremely excellent time.So many games played, great conversations and what a lovely setting. OK, was indoors pretty much 24/7 so the whole 'setting' thing is lost on me, but the rest remains true. Even kept my spleen.

    3 · April 21, 2014

  • Jeroen van den H.

"Are you not entertained? Is that not why you are here?"

I was, and then some. Thanks to everyone for being such good company, and a big hand to Jeff once again for putting it together.

The best time to play a long game is when I don't need to worry about trains and what not. Thanks on 10am start... 9am seemed unpalatable.

Is it time for a Feld-a-thon? All of Stefan Feld's games, played in order of release? ;-) I have a suspicion they're all the same game with a different picture on the front. :-)

    Notable games include:

    2005 Roma
    2006 Rum & Pirates
2007 In the Year of the Dragon
    2007 Notre Dame
    2009 Macao
    2010 Luna
    2010 The Speicherstadt
2011 The Castles of Burgundy *
    2011 Strasbourg
    2011 Trajan
    2013 Bora Bora
    2013 Rialto
    2013 Bruges *
    2013 Amerigo

One problem - who has them all?

So what are peoples plans for food. I seem to have booked meals at the hotel for all three nights. However i feel i should go to try the local eateries at least once. Sat night anyone? Recomendations? D

    April 10, 2014

    • Antony

Thanks. Good to know. Clean easy food in the day will be useful, snacks and sandwiches. Then I'll eat properly in the evening. Besides if I start in the bar the hotel will talk of "2014, the year the prophesised one arrived in Eastbourne" for ever more.

Just so there's documentation of this, and because she's threatened to - if ANYONE hears Csilla persuade me to play Eldritch Horror again for the 4th time, you have authorisation to shoot me. Literally. Put me out of my misery. She is coming prepared with bottles of vodka apparently.. I don't think any amount of plying with alcohol will work, but you never know...
