April Bike Tour: Carpinteria to Refugio State Beach

Hello Adventure Riders,

Big thanks to those who participated in our poll to select a date for our April bike tour. As you can see that the date is now April 16th to 17th and NOT April 1st.

Now that the date has been determined, I went and checked the campgrounds at Refugio State Beach for available campsites. The entire place has been reserved but there are hiker/biker spots. As with other California State Beach, the cost will be $10 per person.

We will meet at Carpinteria to start our journey. I believe a few folks may actually go up early on Friday to camp at the Carpinteria State Park so coordinate below if need be.

The Amtrak train ride into Carpinteria from LA Union station is $29 and with AAA discount is $26.10. There are multiple ways to get back on Sunday which have varying costs.

• Departing Goleta: 1:50PM, 4:22PM, 6:45PM ($32)

• Departing Santa Barbara: 2:04PM, 4:40PM, 6:02PM, 6:59PM ($31)

• Departing Carpinteria: 2:19PM, 4:55PM, 7:15PM ($29)

Carpool if you can.

The ride distance is about 37 miles and 1047 ft of climbing and 971 ft descending. We will be riding through Santa Barbara mainly on side streets until we leave Hollister where we will be riding along Highway 101. Don't worry, we are allowed to be there. A few of us have ridden on these roads before so it is not so bad. I will be sending the routes out to those who RSVPed.
