West Coast Self Supported Bicycle Touring Group

This is a 22-mile bicycle ride on Saturday, October 10, starting from the Anaheim Transportation Center to Rolling M Campground in Chino Hills State Park, where we will camp for the night. We will return the next day on the same route. (see route map.)

The entire ride is completely away from cars. We'll do the first 16 miles on the fairly flat paved (some slight uphills) Santa Ana River Trail, pausing now and then for breaks. Then we will go on a 6-mile gravel road through Chino Hills State Park, ending at Rolling M Campground.
A bike with tires with width of 2.0 inch or higher is highly recommended, since we will ride through dirt roads with some soft sand in some parts. This gravel road has some ups and downs, but nothing taxing. Depending on whether there was rain the previous month, there may be a couple of small streams to cross. Chino Hills State Park allows Class 1 e-bikes (bikes that reach a maximum of 20 mph).

At around mile 11, we'll stop at a fast food place, Real Tacoz, where we take a break for lunch, sitting outside with our bikes. There is also a convenience store nearby to purchase drinks and snacks. Afterwards, we head to the campground. There are no meal stops on the return ride (but there will be rest stops).
PLEASE NOTE: Unlike previous rides, we will NOT stop to purchase dinner for the evening, so you should pack your own dinner and next day's breakfast (and any other foods you want) as if you are going on an isolated camping trip.

The campground has flush toilets and showers. Showers are included in the camp fee, so no tokens are necessary. Each campsite can comfortably fit 4 tents; we have reserved 2 campsites.

We will meet at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Center (2626 E Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92806) at 10:30 a.m. You can park overnight in their parking structure. Both Metrolink and Amtrak goes to this station from either north or south. We will return to the station the next day.

The cost is $10, collected on day of ride. This covers the camp site reservation and any remaining will cover the cost of maintaining the Meetup account.
