This is something I have thought about and am not quite sure how to say it, so will just get it out: I am being left high and dry with the cost of setting up an expensive event. I think it is very important (and know it has been voiced before) to not cancel RSVP's to events that organizers have had to prepay for. There is a big difference from a potluck or hike....the organizer is actually out cash.
I set up the Yellowstone camping at the request of others, and was very happy to do so. We are friends and love doing things together. I love the camaradarie meetup has. I would definitely try to help. However, just since this morning through 3 (?or 5) pm, 6 people have cancelled their RSVP to the Yellowstone camping meetup. As the organizer, I am stuck paying the bill for this and, to be honest, this is extremely frustrating to me. I am not rich. I truly try to set up fun events and make them great for people. When we get a good group going, it is a fantastic time.
I think all of us organizers would appreciate consideration when it comes to RSVP's that actually cost the organizer money.
I also want to mention that I had set up the RSVP's so that it was Paypal WITHOUT the option of refund as I was concerned about people backing out and my being stuck with the cost. (I inadvertantly neglected to do this initially with the Outdoor Group, which is where most of the cancellations came from, although not all.) Please be aware that I do need to cover costs. Be reassured, this was not out of selfishness on my part at all. It was made purely to prevent this exact situation from happening.
If you now of anyone that wants to camp at Yellowstone this weekend, please let them know. It is going to be really beautiful there at this time of year. Colors are really starting to come out now.
Thank you for your consideration and for just "hearing" me.
