Guest Speaker: Jacob Lewallen on Building Sensors to Measure River Health in Africa

Jacob Lewallen has been volunteering with Shah Selbe, a lead technologist and conservation engineer to created a wireless sensor network to gather water quality quality data like pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, flow rate, water level, and turbidity and conductivity. Jacob's work has been focused on building sensors for the Okavango River project, supported by the National Geographic, an effort to collect environmental data, discover new species and measure the heartbeat of one of the most remote wetlands in the world. And it’s all being done with Internet connected devices Raspberry Pie in Botswana.

About the Meetup

This meetup is focused on Internet of Things, in preparation for the New Haven Hackathon.

The purpose is to socialize with others and get exposure to the technologies and sensors that will drive the New Haven Hackathon. This is an excellent time to make connections with future team members. Have a project with sensors, Arduino, beacon, 360 camera, or drone? Bring it!

Experienced and inexperienced makers and hackers welcome.

We will have beverages and pizza for attendees who RSVP.
