What we’re about
Have you ever wished there were an AWESOME makerspace or hackerspace in the Salt Lake City area? A place where you can find like-minded tinkerers, hardware entrepreneurs, engineers, artists and makers?
We're building Utah's premiere makerspace and we'd love it if you'd join us. Our space is located right next to the Utah Arts Alliance's Art Hub at 663 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84104.
We're excited! Come to our public meetings or committee meetings. Be a part of our not-for-profit organization and steer this ship in the right direction. The larger our group, the more likely this endeavor will continue to be self-sustaining. In other words, we need you!
Check out our schedule of classes (analog electronics, cosplay costumes, DIY kids, etc.) and our roster of tools (laser cutter, CNC routers, 3D printers, wood shop, welder, etc.)

In this class we will go over everything you need to know to start modeling your own functional parts in Autodesk Fusion 360. We will do this as we model a desk organizer. This is an ONLINE course and we will send you the link to join the class on the day of. A second monitor is highly recommended, as it will make it much easier to follow along with my screen while navigating the program on your own screen, but it is still possible without them. A mouse is also highly recommended (not a trackpad) as it is much easier to manipulate the 3D model in Fusion 360.
This is an outline of the points we will cover:
- Viewport navigation
- Making and constraining a sketch
- Extruding your sketch (adding and removing material)
- Pattern and Mirror feature (efficient modeling)
- Fillet and Chamfer feature (finishing touches to part)
- Exporting your part
A PDF instructional guide will be provided before the class so that you can follow along and visualize all of the steps we will be taking to complete this part. A fully dimensioned drawing of the part will also be provided.
Instructions for getting Fusion 360 (must be completed BEFORE the class):
Follow this link to the Autodesk website. Click "Get Fusion 360 for personal use", then follow prompts to create an account and download the program. You must have the program up and running, and be signed in by the time class starts, as we don’t want to waste any time getting that set up.Disclaimer: Since this is only a single day class, we will move through the curriculum quickly and one on one assistance will be limited. If you are not confident in computer navigation and learning new systems you may struggle to keep up.
