OCaml Meetup/Hack session (open to all)

Hi folks, we're organising another OCaml hacking session!

There will be an emphasis on OCaml compiler-hacking this time -- knowledge of OCaml programming will obviously be helpful, but prior experience of working on OCaml internals isn't necessary. If you want to do other OCaml stuff stuff instead, you're more than welcome (e.g work through the Real World OCaml book).

Note that, we're defining "compiler" pretty broadly, to include anything that's part of the standard distribution, which means at least the standard library, runtime, tools (ocamldep, ocamllex, ocamlyacc, etc.), camlp4, ocamlbuild, the documentation, and the compiler itself. We'll have suggestions for mini-projects for various levels of experience, but feel free to come along and work on whatever you fancy.

We'll also be ordering pizza, (courtesy of OCaml Labs) so if you want to be counted for food please arrive by 6.30pm so we can put in the order (food should arrive by 7:30pm).

I'm torn over whether I'm coming or not! I have chocolate to drop of at makespace and I need to be in Trumpington at 7.30. If I do come it will be minus a computer this time, but should be a chance to meet people and figure out if this is something I am interested in longer term (I'm pretty sure it is, time might be the biggest issue!).

Hi all, It looks like there will be about a dozen of us overall (there are other folks not on meetup who are coming) . :)

For more information about compiler hacking, the main place to look is the wiki:

There's also a blog with details of the first session:

I've been looking forward to this restarting, sadly I'm usually busy Wednesdays, though I need to check the start time, so I may be able to join you for the first hour or so.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
