Maker Night

RSVP Essential: You need to be on the list to ensure we can let you in!

Our first maker night in makespace! In the words of SHDC (the original club we ran that led us to create makespace), "An excuse to geek out on pet projects or startup ideas in the company of other enthusiastic people. If you hack around with electronics, software, web technologies or mechanics, come and join in!"

To be clear, there is no furniture or equipment (or even internet!!) in the space yet, so don't expect too much!

Making on the night is encouraged, but given this is the first one and there is little equipment, we'd really encourage a bit of show and tell:

Bring your current/past/future projects and ideas to show off, and find out about others!

We'll try and find a load of tables to put projects/plans on...

Agenda

7.00pm - 11.30pm: The space will be open; come and meet people, show off your projects and ideas, even work on something!

8.00pm: We'll present a Makespace update for those interested

8.30pm: Maybe some micro-pitches/lighting talks for anyone to introduce themselves and their project

Getting There

See the Makespace location and entrance map for how to get there and find the entrance. Note there is no parking available onsite, so if you are coming by car you'll have to park elsewhere and walk in. There are bike racks onsite.

I will be turning up late - what time does it go on till?

If you go to the right hand (east) side of the building seen on this map: http://goo.gl/maps/5A... there's a door which looks into the makespace, where you can probably get someone's attention.

      September 26, 2012

    • Laura J.

We won't be using that back door - it is an emergency exit only - but we'll try to make it easy to reach us from the front door (even with very limited cell coverage :)

Any parking there ?? Whats the situ for parking ??

    September 24, 2012

    • Laura J.

I'm afraid we can't guarantee any parking at the site at all. In the city centre there is very limited onstreet parking too, but there are nearby car parks (such as that at the Grand Arcade). There is a car park at the Makespace site but this is generally secured and we do not have any spaces allocated; if the car park is open and there are spaces then you may be able to park there at your own risk.

Probably your best bet is to try Queen's Rd. It has quite a lot of on-street parking. http://goo.gl/maps/oe...

I would have brought a cake :) but unfortunately I got sports training with a team which I can't change. So next time!

I'm taking a train in from London, still looking for lodging accommodations...any advice?

    September 25, 2012

  • Simon F.

Yes, i forgot that rule. Anyone who is new (ie never attended SHDC/Maker Night before) must bring cake. That is by far the best rule i ever made!

    September 20, 2012

    • Wojciech M.

I can bake a cake; no other guarantees than teeth replacement next day :)

      September 24, 2012

    • Wojciech M.

BTW: We could just order pizza? No baking soda involved.

      September 24, 2012

  • Steve L.

I`ll be there, if thats OK with you all.... I promise I dont bite!

    September 24, 2012

  • John L.

Sorry I can't attend, but this clashes with another meeting :( so hopefully next time.

Guess I'd better go via Tescos then :)

I remember at SHDC we had one awesome rule: If it is your first time, you have to bring cake....

As this is the spiritual successor to SHDC, let's keep the rule!

Hi Robert, we'll want to look at any donations before accepting them just to avoid us being a junk dump, so perhaps bring a photo to the meetup, and we can see if they could be useful

    September 20, 2012

  • Simon F.

Hi Richard; good spot, i've tried to teach meetup better now...

I have 7 chairs I would really like to get out of my house. It will take about 4 trips with my bike trailer to move them. If they are wanted when can I start moving them?

    September 19, 2012

  • Simon F.

Good questions, will confirm details around parking nearer the time

    September 17, 2012

We will be making :) Social as a side effect.
