The New York Browning Society welcomes Unitarian leaders, members, and historians to this talk on the poet Robert Browning by Professor Hèdi Jaouad from Skidmore College
From its inception, the Unitarian Church espoused and worked for the advancement of liberal causes. Its pastors and members came to equate progress with self-culture, or cultivation. Unitarians found in Robert Browning’s poetry many reflections of their own beliefs and persuasions. They were the driving force behind the spread of Browning-mania, in which dozens of Robert Browning societies were founded and thrived in many American cities (including our own Society in 1907).
A reception with coffee and cookies will follow the presentation.
