What we’re about
Learn, Grow, Pay It Forward http://bit.ly/Conversation_Day_Pictures
Are you a lifelong learner?
"Manhattan Lectures & Conversations" (MLC) is a group of growth-minded volunteers looking for engaging conversations and lectures. The vision is to connect people who love learning—old and young, singles and couples, boroughs and islanders alike, in a way that fosters both community and growth.
NYC has some of the greatest minds on earth coursing through it on a daily basis, so let's take advantage of that fact and get our learn on!
Additionally, we will have coffee and discussion after each lecture for those who are interested.

See all- FTI: Is that self confidence or Egotism?Link visible for attendees
I’d argue that a lot of people have difficulty distinguishing between egotism vs. self confidence. Self confidence is a highly desirable trait, but Egotism is a highly undesirable trait. I’ve seen many self confident people actually practice false humility in an effort to avoid being miscategorized as egotistical. Throughout my life I’ve regularly seen people misdiagnose egotists as high self confidence people, and occasionally vice versa (though less often). It’s a known issue that people confuse self confidence and egotism, if you google it you’ll see articles like this:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/cywakeman/2015/11/23/confidence-vs-ego-the-difference-between-success-and-self-sabotage/?sh=2ae95496d6a7Egotism is very bad for those under the sphere of influence of the egotist, because they often want to make decisions they’re incapable of making well, whereas self confident people positively impact those in their sphere of influence, by accurately assessing their and others capabilities enabling better decisions to be made within that sphere of influence.
I’d like to try to help create criteria that helps people more accurately differentiate between self confidence and egotism. Here’s my take on how to distinguish between self confidence and egotism:

- Brief Self-Compassion & Loving-Kindness ExercisesLink visible for attendees
This workshop is about brief self-compassion and loving-kindness exercises that work effectively. People often feel self-compassion and loving-kindness practice must always take a long time. It is a long-term practice, but at times when the going gets rough or when we are stressed and busy, it can be nice to have short exercises that only take a minute that can quickly boost our mood.
Here is an interview I did with artist Gwynn Seemel on Using Art to Help with Mental Health.
