about Earthsave Canada

EARTHSAVE CANADA is a Vancouver-based registered charity since 1990. They advocate the move towards a more whole food, plant-based diet for environmental sustainability, better health, and compassion toward animals. They also believe communities are stronger when they set a table that people from all cultures and beliefs can enjoy. Plant-based is the most equitable menu there is!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Request for Volunteer Help

We do need about 9 volunteers for the entry doors, setup, canteen, clean up.

This is all about a rare chance to learn, eat well, relax and have some fun. We at Meatless Meetup really need your support.

All money above the food cost at the canteen is going directly to Earthsave. Donations to Earthsave do get a tax receipt from them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Prizes and Donations

Door prizes and raffle prizes are donations from the vegan friendly

business community.

Terra V, Nice Shoes, Vegan Pizza house, Sweet Cherubim...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Who is financing this event?

A select few who believe in our cause and only desire to see us as a community grow. Meatless Meetup is a cross road between the various parts of the vegan community. One of the places we all get a chance to say "Hi..", make some new friends and have some fun.

The hall is been made available to us by a SDA church. It is important to remember that this is not a religious event.

They are solely providing us a space where we can hold an event as they agree with the benefits of a plant based diet and their view of helping where they can. And they are not part of, and they are not involved with is event

Dr. Will Tuttle used to be a Zen Monk. His desire is just to help and reaffirm a healthy path for us all.

We now have just partnered up with the meet-up group

Top 10 things to do in Vancouver

http://www.meetup.com/The-YVR-Social-Group/

and the total of that group gets added to Duanes guest count..

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Meatless Meetup organizers and members, as well as to Duane and his fine folks for putting this event together, and for supporting Earthsave Canada. From the sounds of it the speakers (and their musical gifts) made it a huge success. This community is truly inspiring. Raising awareness around the effect our diet has on the planet, and every creature on it, is our shared mission. Thank you on behalf of Earthsave Canada for caring enough to take part.

Thanks Duane. I got stuck in bridge traffic big time, so only just made it in time for Dr Tuttle's talk. I was a too shy to approach you before rushing out to attend my Dad's Bday party. We share the same birthday, years apart, of course LOL!

Earthsave needs to tell us why we should support them. I've been told they don't need volunteers and they don't want local community style events, and here we are putting on a benefit potluck for them.

Earthsave has been around for 20 years, but last I heard they only had 300 members.

It sounds to me like they need a re-vamp, because with only 300 members they obviously aren't relevant enough.

I'm volunteering for a new organization now that started about 10 years earlier and they have over 50,000 members.

So, Earthsave... Why should we support you?

Educating the world about a plant based diet isn't good enough anymore. Everyone already does it.

PS: Your newsletter helped get me farther into being a Vegetarian/Vegan, but you don't seem relevant to the world anymore.

    • Brian Leafy G.

Positive. They have changed their focus. I wish I was at the board meetings for the organization because then I'd have a more thorough opinion of what is going on, but alas I don't... All I remember is campaigning for them at a number of conventions and selling people on the benefits when soon after they said no more community building gatherings (which they could have still called a part of Earthsave Canada but let someone else do the work.) Earthsave Canada is nothing more than an advocacy organization for animals and human health and that's fine, but it didn't just start out to be ONLY that way. I think that's where people are missing the point.

Okay, you've had your say and this is where the conversation ends. These posts are going out to a lot of people and I'm getting complaints. All further posts will be deleted.
