About us
Food at our events is vegan but anyone interested in lowering their carbon footprint by eating more plant based meals, even if never planning to go fully vegan, is welcome. For safety reasons, we require members to use **a real first name and face photo** on their profile.
Meatless Meetup is run by a group of volunteer hosts who believe it to be of critical environmental importance that we drastically reduce our meat and dairy consumption. We recommend Earthsave Canada (https://www.earthsave.ca/) for information about the plant based diet.
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with us, from collecting cash at restaurants to helping out at potlucks. If you want to meet more people at events, get in touch.
N.B. As last minute cancellations and no shows keep wait-listers out, harm our relationship with restaurants, and can even result in our volunteer hosts having to pay for others' meals, we require you to pay for your meal via e-transfer for set menu events if you no show or cancel without adequate notice. Repeated no shows will result in removal from the group.
Meatless Meetup aims to be a transparent, safe space for all. If you experience any form of harassment, please contact a host immediately.

Buffet Lunch at a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery
Thrangu Monastery, 8140 No.5 Road, Richmond, BC, CANot to be confused with the Chinese Buddhist monasteries we visit, this is the Thrangu Tibetan Monastery, a large Buddhist temple in Richmond.
We are meeting at 10:50 just inside the back door of the monastery. We cannot be late because we are getting a tour.
First we will have a tour of the monastery. Following that there will be a very short talk, followed by a question and answer session, and a meditation. We will then have lunch. The lunch is made up of Nepali, Indian and Chinese dishes.
Please note: While vegetarianism is not a requirement of Tibetan Buddhism, this monastery serves only vegetarian and vegan food. 50% of the lunch buffet is vegan. Be sure to check which dishes are vegan before taking a portion.
Lunch is by donation.
Come prepared with cash for your donation and a question to ask.
N.B. We have to give the monastery an accurate number of guests as they are a charity and buying food for our attendees, so agreeing to the registration question when you RSVP is a requirement for attendance at this event. If you get removed from this event by hosts, it's nothing personal--you are very welcome to reregister and just answer the RSVP question.
