Vegan Dinner at Wild Rice

Wild Rice (map)

Selected By: Nancy

$23 including tax and tip for ESC-members and non.

Wild Rice's head chef Todd is predominately vegan himself and a creative genius on the veggie side.

This event will be at the new Wild Rice location in New Westminster, so for everyone who asks why we never do events outside Vancouver, this one's for you! And for those Vancouverites concerned about the distance, the restaurant is located right by the skytrain.

Menu:

Hot and Sour soup, with local vegetables and house smoked chilli oil.

Shitake mushroom and smoked tofu turnip cakes, pan fried with a pickled vegetable salad.

Roasted Yam and Rosemary potstickers, red vinegar sesame sauce.

3 mushroom and caramelised onion steam buns, scallion verde and kecap manis.

Taro and potato croquettes, cauliflower puree and pickled mushroom vinagrette.

Local vegetable spring rolls, ginger soy agave dip.

5 treasure fried rice.

Sticky Drunken beans, toasted cashews.

Okanagan pear dumplings, star anise caramel and cinnamon sugar.

The menu looks delicious Nancy. Earthsave members used to save a couple of dollars on these previously, has that changed?

Particularly liked the steamed buns, the green beans, the fried rice and the dessert. Thanks to Daniel for his help collecting the cash.

The food was delicious! I particularly enjoyed the brown rice and the spring rolls. I wish the hot and sour soup had come to our table first instead of last as it was very spicy and hard to finish the meal with.

The dishes were good to look at and I thought the price was fair for the portion size as this is not a low end or high end restaurant. My favorite dishes were the fried rice and spring rolls. The soup was too vinegary. Thanks for all of your efforts Nancy to bring us another interesting dineout.

We especially liked the Drunken Beans, Spring Rolls, Steam Buns, and the potsticker. However, there should have been at least 2 potstickers per person. We laughed about that at our table. The soup had too much vinegar and spice! The company as usual was awesome.

I was underwhelmed by the food the location and the service. I think we gave Wild Rice a good deal. Always enjoy the company at our dineouts and potlucks, so no complaints there.

was my first meetup. was fun. mostly met the people at my table, everyone was very nice. wild rice was fun, a little out of the way for me, but no biggie. the diner was mostly excellent, the soup was very very spicy, very vinegary. the croquettes were okay. the desert, which i was looking forward to, was a little disappointing. everything else on the menu was very good. the standouts where the steamed veggie buns and the potstickers. i would go back for those two items alone.
