Lunch at Buddhist Temple

Lily has arranged for us to have lunch with the Master at the International Buddhist temple.

From their website: "Widely regarded as the most exquisite example of traditional Chinese architecture in Canada, the International Buddhist Temple is in many ways like a work of art taken straight out of Chinese history.

As a magnificent structural complex modeled after the Forbidden City in Beijing, China, the temple features Chinese imperial architecture in all its glory. Combining intricate stonework and symbolic carvings with the elements of nature, the tranquil grounds resemble a scholar's courtyard in ancient China."

1) Sweet & Sour Veggie Meat.

2) Ma Po Tofu
3) Fresh Beancurd Rolls
4) Stir Fry Mix Veggies
5) BBQ pastry
6) Steam Rice

I really enjoyed touring the temple, but wasn't as crazy about the food. Thanks so much to the organizers for putting on this event.

I wanted to thank the organizers for putting this event together. While i have lived in the Vancouver area for some time, i had never noticed this venue other than driving by. I thought the food was fine and the experience was worth the money. Doubtful one would have had this experience without this group. well done Nancy et al who put this together

I agree Elise, I believe that the comments are for ALL of our personal experiences, whether they be positive or negative. We all have different opinions and as such, all should be accepted.

have noticed a few comments with differences of opinions such as Lorna etc. How can everyone appreciate each other feedback even when they differ from what one agrees with? How can we simply adknowledge the differences? Again, at least for me, I have all respect and gratitude for the organizers and yes there may be some people who had not such a positive experience. Can we all accept differences and different feedback?

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The temple & gardens were beautiful & I thought the food was ample. . In response to another members comments re: not enough food, some dishes where we were sitting, we were offered second helpings of some dishes so I cannot see why he was unable to satiate his hunger. secondly the name of the meet-up group is Vancouver Meatless not Vancouver Architecture & Culture club. My belief is it is primarily to expose us to new places to eat meatless. The culture is a added bonus. Perhaps you could either form/join a group that focuses on that aspect of architecture. I would of loved a tour but I was not expecting one. I think that just adds up to encouraging us all to go back & explore more. I did not find the 'forced' tv lecture painful just another part of the experience of Buddhism.

    Thank-you Lily to organizing this:)

Thank you Lily for arranging a visit such as this to the temple. For those who have issues with certain foods - was that made aware to any of the event hosts ?

I'm sorry to hear some people has food difficulties; soy allergies; tomato etc; Food wise; I personally was content with the amount of food the temple offered; for $13 including tax and tip it was a good deal.

Suggestions to Buddist Temple from a first-time visitor:

    1) My main reason for going was to experience the gardens and architecture, which I enjoyed; I would have appreciated a guided tour highlighting areas of cultural and historical significance.

    2) I would have preferred a Q&A session about Buddism before my meal, rather than a forced TV lecture during my meal, where I would rather be mindful of what I'm eating and enjoying a pleasant conversation

    3) I was still hungry at the end of my meal and would have liked the option of having additional food (a 100 lb vs 200 lb person have different food requirements)

    Thanks for considering the above.../Keith

I enjoyed the entire experience, the food was great and the surroundings, calm, reflective, peaceful. For $13 all in, I personally think it was a good deal. The Diamond Sutra lecture that was put on for people to watch whilst eating, I found was a nice change, nice to think, contemplate and reflect on the things that were being mentioned.

Great thanks to Lily for again arranging for us to attend this beautiful temple for a special lunch--a very interesting experience! Some of us stayed later, socialized on the grounds and ate in the temple restaurant. We had a great time.
