Hello Meatless Meetup Members!

For those who don't know it, Earthsave Canada is the registered charity behind this meetup group.

Earthsave runs the annual veg food fair in Vancouver, info booths around town, does school presentations, maintains a resource centre, co-runs Meatless Monday Canada, the Veggie Challenge, produces and sends out a newsletter to the local libraries and partner businesses, a website, a weekly email update etc. etc. --all educating people on the consequences of food choices and encouraging a shift towards a plant based diet.

This year is very tight financially for all charities and Earthsave is no exception. If the issues surrounding food choices are important to you, please read this letter from Earthsave:

Dear Friend,

I?m writing to you today to ask for your help.

Unlike previous years, Earthsave Canada will not be receiving any provincial grant money this year. This means:
? The new cross-Canada Meatless Monday Campaign and our Veggie Challenge Campaign are currently operating on a shoestring budget;
? Our hope of creating an online environmental food footprint calculator is on hold;
? Newsletters that serve as valuable educational and advocacy tools are being published less often;
? We will not have presence at many important events.

Since Earthsave Canada?s sole purpose is to educate, inspire and empower people to shift toward a plant-based diet, I?m sure you?ll agree that the lack of funding will be debilitating.

As a friend of Earthsave Canada, you also know the current state of the planet.

Animal agriculture contributes a minimum of 20 to 30% of human caused global warming load. The number of factory farmed animals worldwide is increasing by billions every year. And, as Jonathan Safran Foer says, 99% of the meat North Americans eat comes from factory farms.

Considering the wide reaching consequences of simple lifestyle choices ? especially dietary choices, the message that Earthsave Canada distributes is crucial.
You can make a difference by donating either online at:
http://www.earthsave.ca/donate
or by phoning the office [masked])
or by sending a cheque (Earthsave Canada 2150 Maple St. Vancouver BC, V6J 3T3).
Your gift today will us help us to continue to spread the word. Please give generously.

Thank you,

David Steele
President, Earthsave Canada
