It is summertime! The sun is out and it is time for you to get out too. On July 12, the Mid-Michigan Food Club is holding the first semi-annual Foodie Scavenger Hunt! In this crazy event, you will have the chance to team up with fellow members of our club and then travel around town in a mad-dash to find a bunch of food-related items based only on some cryptic word clues and a photograph! After a few hours you must make it to a final meeting place (also a secret) where the winning team will get a free drink as well as a gourmet dinner for them and a “+1” courtesy of Michael King, our resident home-chef. If this sounds like a bunch of fun that you cannot imagine missing out on…then please READ ON… J
Here is the basic plan for the day:
A. Before the hunt:
a. We will meet at the CATA bus stop in the Frandor parking lot by Panera’s at 9:30AM sharp. Please don’t be late as the success of this event depends on starting on time. Don’t be that person!
i. In the case of inclement weather, we will meet inside of Panera’s.
b. Each team will consist of three members, assigned randomly after everyone arrives. To make this a more social event, you will NOT be permitted to pick your team-mates. Meeting new people can be part of the fun!
c. One team member will have to volunteer to be the driver in their personal car. Your fellow team members will each pay you $3 (for a total of $6 to the driver) for the cost of gas.
d. Each team will need a smart phone that can take and text pictures. If you don’t have one, don’t worry. I will make sure that you are on a team that does have one.
e. Teams will leave in their respective vehicles at 10:00AM sharp.
B. During the hunt:
a. Just prior to departure, one “clue packet” will be handed to each team. Each packet will contain a picture of each the items your team is to locate, along with a written clue. Your team must locate five of the seven items that are provided in the packet.
b. After each “find”, the team must have a picture taken of them with the item as a team. If the whole team is not in the picture, the picture does not count. Otherwise, how do we know that your team didn’t break up to “divide and conquer”?
c. Each picture must be texted to me (Danielle) for the team to receive credit for that “find”. The phone number will be provided in the clue packet.
d. You must travel together as a group. No “divide and conquer” strategies.
e. No communication with members of other teams is ALLOWED. I mean, come on, do you really want to help the enemy??!
f. You can use GPS, your smartphones, the interwebs, your team members’ knowledge, or “the man on the street”. Everything is fair game once the contest starts, so long as you all stay together, use only one car, and follow all of the other rules of the hunt, you are good.
g. If you feel that you simply cannot locate five of the seven items and you want me to tell you where a particular item is located, you can use your one and only “Phone a Friend”. I will answer your question but your team will incur a 20 minute penalty which will be assessed upon your arrival to the final stop.
C. Finishing the hunt:
a. After your team has successfully located and been photographed with five of the seven items in the clue packet, your team will be texted a clue to final location where the all teams will reassemble and prizes will be awarded.
b. The first team to arrive at the final destination after having successfully completed all aspects of the hunt will be deemed The Winner!
c. The cut off time is 1:00PM. If your team has not finished by 1:00PM simply text us that you are not worthy and simply to want to come home. Don’t worry, you will still be invited to the final stop.
d. If at any time you want to give up and come home, let us know and we will text you the final location.
D. To the winners go the spoils…
a. Each member of the winning team will receive a free beer (or your favorite beverage) at the final stop. Hint, hint, they serve alcohol J
b. Each member of the winning team, along with one guest of their choosing, will be treated to a wonderful dinner in either the Italian, Chinese, or Thai style, courtesy of our own illustrious home chef Michael King. The only requirement is that the winning team agrees on the style of food and a date that works for Mike and everyone else. If you have ever been to one of his home meals, you know you want to be the winning team!
c. 2nd (and maybe 3rd) prizes will be based on the number of teams who participate. These will be announced at the beginning of the competition.
WARNING/DISCLAIMER/IDIOCY INDEMNITY CLAUSE: Each team is strongly advised to obey local traffic laws and to not act stupid. The co-organizers of the club are NOT responsible for any tickets you get, laws you break, or accidents in which you (or a member of your team) are involved.
