Monthly Meet-Up at Jimmy's #43-Nut and Seed "Cheeses"

For our July Meet-Up, we'll be meeting a little later in the month due to the 4th of July holiday. Inspired by some of the delicious nut and seed "cheeses" that NYC Ferment members have brought to previous Meet-Ups, members wanted to try their hand at making non-dairy cheese from nuts and/or seeds. These vegan cheeses can be made from any nut or seed - some of the most popular are almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. If you have never made a nut or seed cheese before, I have included a few links as resources. If others have good recipes, please post them.

You can also bring a nut and/or seed cracker and just a regular sourdough bread.

If you aren't able to bring anything fermented this month, bringing paper plates, cups, etc is always appreciated. Just let us know!

I think (hope!) this is open to anyone who wishes... Register to listen to a Free Teleseminar: Nourishing Traditional Diets, the Key to Vibrant Health with Susun Weed and Sally Fallon Morell. Short notice, it's tonight.

Can't make it after all. Sorry to miss. My nut cheeses didn't turn out well at all. Would love some tips. And I wanted to ask about ferments in the summer in general. It's so hot! Not sure what to do differently in this heat. Will they rot?

don't know how you do your ferments, but... I always add some probiotic powder to the mix (I use New Chapter All Flora Probiotics). I have no A/C here, but I just keep on putting my fermenting jars in the corner top of my stove (it's up against the outside wall of the building, but it seems to be cool enough, or else my probiotics are making things work, or both)

As much as I hate missing tonight's meetup, especially since I'm particularly interested in this kind of fermenting, there's just no way I can swing it. Have a great meetup and see you in the future!

My cashew cheeze is on, fermenting away. Stage 2 tomorrow. I'll put it in the rings (I've never done that before, but my cheeze class showed it to me, so I want to try it. Looking forward to a good cheeze - haven't decided the flavoring yet.
