Want to make music but not form a band? Want to work on solos but those youtube back tracks just aren't enough? Then this is the meetup for you. NYC Jam's goal is to form a network of like minded New York City musicians who just want to jam!

So what exactly is jamming? To me, jamming is just pure music improvisation. Either from the get go or based out of a song's structure. Think of The Grateful Dead, Phish, Moe., the guys who defined the Jam band genre.

Depending on the turnout, I will try to make this a weekly event and community run.

Now for the rules:

-Communication. Here this means a lot. Let other's know what chords you're playing. And let us know from the beginning what you're playing and what styles of music you like. Also listen to each other when playing, leave room for others to have solos. Let us know ASAP if you RSVP'd but have to cancel

-RSVP. The jam meetups will be posted a week ahead of time, plenty of time I think. This will be worked out later but I will adopt Matt's system; X amount of people need to RSVP by a certain date or else the event will be canceled. Studio's aren't cheap.

Zero tolerance for no-shows. If you RSVP and don't show up, you will be removed from the group. Canceling on short notice (assuming it's not common issue) or messaging me after a no-show is fine however

-Payment. The cost of the studio will be split evenly among everyone. I don't care if you came a half hour early or showed up in the last 10 minutes to jam, you will pay an even share which will be when you first arrive. Brought someone with you, they also pay an even share; it's only fair.

-The music. Anything goes! While rock is always the most common style, I highly encourage anything. Be it hip hop, funk, latin, whatever! What I don't want are song covers. We have a limited amount of time in the studio and I feel too much time is wasted teaching others one song to cover. Using a melody or a chord structure of a song as a basis for a jam is definitely ok though.

-Community. Everyone is welcomed to make suggestions or even host your own jam event from here. Just don't be dicks.

Have fun and keep on jammin! More to come...

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
