4of5 stars. Not having Internet (see alert in event comments) was rough, and that (my searching for it, even visiting all neighboring establishments), plus leader Bill being 1hr late (1st time ever), caused us to get a late start, and we only had 5 attendees, but we still had a surprisingly good meeting! including going strong till closing 10pm. Both presentations were quite good, and I had thoughts & contributions for both. Indeed Bill's I'd like him to present again. And it was good to see Michael Strong for his 2nd meeting, plus welcome Martin Martinez for his 1st. :-) Plus it was useful & fun having Bill come visit me afterwards.

**per my 1st meeting member Jacob Christ http://meetup.com/OCAndroid/mem... and he offering to present here on that topic, as detailed in my Greet today "Sep 18, 2012 11:37 AM" on his profile (just see that)

  • Jacob Christ

Smart people, good conversations. Geek out for sure.

    October 26, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

IMPORTANT: Event description announces (has it has for years) "M15TNK: If you have PORTABLE INTERNET, especially Internet you can share as a wifi-hotspot, please BRING IT. .. for the regular case where our venue's Internet is non-existent or not reliable [which is the case tonite]".
*Leader Bill, as you know I physically gave u a fully-working smartphone (Samsung Intercept) for this job (and since u had no mobile phone with data), so kindly pay the minimal $25/mo monthly bill (until you get yourself an alternate as u're planning) so we have Internet via that(+4u).
*But Bill isn't the only one to be depended on. Other attendees & members, too, bring some portable Internet or (smartphone with data which we can use as a Hotspot -incl we do the hotspot setup 4u4 free).
*It's not fair&nor good4 me2 always be the provider of this.
*Most important today: my mobile Internet is now not yet working (due to T-Mobile blocks talked about at this meeting http://1.JotHere.com3633#commen... )

    October 25, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

      Bill,
*U write of me "You're several months too late" -but regardless of what deal yes I promised u but,by my full mistake,I never fully gave u (well I effectively gave u everything but the acct password, incl a full smartphone+1mo of free service -that can't all be bad) and after u paying nothing4it as I promised, esp as our leader #2, it's also "never too late for u" to provide us a Hotspot,2, knowing we always use the Internet when available, esp after I've done it for all mtgs before (about 15 now) but this time couldn't do it :-) Why in part wd a group hv additional leaders? And must&should it always depend on me? -I think not,as I'm not perfect,as u here point out! Plus I couldn't hv said more to u&all that eventually sometime my phone cdn't be depended on, and sure here it was. -That's where u notably step in, Mr VP :-) So
*Yes, great to hear you say here u're close to having ur smartphone working so u can provide us a hotspot, too. :-) -and I hope more follow your lead there!

      October 26, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

*Special thanks to attendees Michael Strong & Martin Martinez for both trying to get their phones working with FoxFi to provide us all Internet that I wasn't able to this time; didn't work in either case for different tech reasons, but thanks for both giving it a try!
*My phone was down at the start of meeting (wdn't even make calls); but T-Mobile 611 fixed it. One thing I didn't check until after I got home is this fixed the FoxFi Internet, too (indeed I'm on it now!); wish I had checked again! But, due to T-Mobile block, I don't expect this would have lasted a full meeting (it didn't last a full meeting last time), so OUR NEED FOR PEOPLE TO BRING PORTABLE HOTSPOTS IS JUST AS GREAT, and (above) Bill is hard at work on his plus I'll be continuing to also work to root my phone(yes, as T-Mobile sales reps recommend) to undo the block; everyone else, please try to work out & bring a hotspot on ur devices, too!

*Pls now give us this info:

  • Jacob Christ

    I can make it on the 25th.. _c_u_there();

    October 9, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

*To the now 8 people already RSVPing YES to this, thank you!
*Bill&I just decided THIS MEETING WILL HAVE TO MOVE
    **fr "Thursday, October 18, 2012"
**to ~+/- 1 week, exact TBA soon,
**due to the conflict (this month only) with MobileCampLA #1/2012 http://meetup.com/OCAndroid/eve... ,an event most OCAndroid members would likely want to go go to, happening on the same day & all day.
**Pls don't update ur RSVPs for this mtg until after it's been moved, but do free free to RSVP for that MobileCampLA!

    October 7, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

I just moved this monthly series
      *fr 2012.10.18(3rd Thursdays)
**original 1st choice but conlicted with above plus leader Lucy's http://meetup.com/OCA... Laguna Woods Video Club http://LagunaWoodsVil... meetings
      *to 2012.10.25(4th Thursdays)
**per the dicussion in the "Thu" thread that would be the 2nd choice, plus it also gives us more time to prepare for this meeting
      *Please update ur RSVPs.

      October 8, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

What day of the week we hold these meetings:
"THU", with which THU of the month to be determined, is what I'm proposing in this thread.

    September 20, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

On the Ubuntu Hour option, this is no longer a factor for Thu, as (the head says he no longer has time to run them and is looking for another leader http://meetup.com/OCA... )

      October 7, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

For 4th/last Thu, I checked (my next Meetup schedule http://www.meetup.com... ) and it's available
*though hopefully no Halloween conflicts in Oct (as this), a reason to prefer 4th instead of last Thu on some years which have both.

      October 8, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

Bill & I decided ~2 days, WE'RE MOVING THIS MEETING & likely the meeting the series from today TO ~2 WEEKS LATER
    *for a number of reasons:
**I'm very tied up running excellent "Group-watch&discuss Showtime’s hot reality show “POLYAMORY” Season1 http://1.JotHere.com/MAPoly ) -join us here! -it's excellent. Also Bill significantly helped set up the AV & will hopefully be there on sometimes (as tomorrow) too!
**We wanted to move it off a Monday (see earlier threads here)
**One of our speakers Jacob is sick (see prior comment)
*I'll be announcing the new date on this comment.
*Reply to each day-possibly thread (posted earlier here) to vote for your preferred day(s) of the week!

    September 24, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

Per that, @4:39 PM, I moved this (from today, last Mondays of the month) to 3rd Thursdays (starting 2012.10.18).
*Why? As detailed the earlier threads here (on each possible day of the week)
**We needed a change & now a short delay as for http://1.JotHere.com/...
**This is 1st available spot which didn't conflict w/everything else
      *2nd runner-up 4th or last Thursdays
      *PLS UPDATE UR RSVP:
**Michael Strong I've now made a YES indeed he'll be attending most mtgs fr now on per http://meetup.com/OCA...
**speaker Jacob C I've now made a YES, as, w/this delay to recover http://meetup.com/OCA..., he should be well again
**Mark Stinson http://meetup.com/OCA... pls update ur RSVP & w/ cmt as we don't know ur situation.

      September 24, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

What day of the week we hold these meetings:
"WED", with which WED to be determined, is what I'm proposing in this thread.

    September 20, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

      Note 4th else 3rd Wed is & is-long-done by OC-PHP as http://meetup.com/oc-... shows.

      September 20, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

On my phone call to Michael Strong http://meetup.com/OCA... "4:15 PM 45 minutes ago 12 minutes long" he said Wed wasn't impossible for him but he couldn't reliably make Wed.

      September 24, 2012

  • Jacob Christ

All, I cannot make it tonight. I've been sick as a dog for the last two days and I don't want to spread my germs. I do want to come next time though and show off my industrial controller that uses an andriod for.the interface.

    September 24, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

Thanks for this heads up :-) & not a problem as we're moving this meeting date, to accommodate you & more: see my comment just now http://meetup.com/OCA... . And also get well soon! We look forward to having you :-)

      September 24, 2012

  • DestinyArchitect

What day of the week we hold these meetings.
*"MON", specifically "Repeating on the last Mon of every 1 month", is what we've done for several months now. Specifically Mondays we've done since 2012.03.19mon "OCAndroid Developers Meetup 44+" http://meetup.com/OCAndroid/eve...
*"TUE", specifically "Repeating on the last Tue of every 1 month", is what I'm proposing now here, and will put into effect starting in ~1day (so for this meeting) unless cons put here outweigh pros put here. Just reply to this comment with ur thoughts.

    September 18, 2012

    • Bill Zwicky

I'm opposed simply because I hate change. :( But I see no problem with switching to Tuesday, as long as Round Table can give us the location.

      September 19, 2012

    • DestinyArchitect

*Bill,Well glad u can see that just hating change kills any chance of improvement 100% ;-)
*U bring up a good point with our venue. Yes, venue will not reserve our room on any Tue, as late as "Mar 29, 2012" says http://meetup.com/OCA...
**And since I'm really not up to searching for an alternative venue, THIS KILLS TUEDAYS.

      September 20, 2012

This is http://meetu.ps/jFWys (short-URL, as Meetup.com unfortunately hides it 1hr after event start)
