Ohio Valley Trailblazers Pages

Welcome to the Ohio Valley Trailblazers! We are a hiking club for those who like longer, more challenging day hikes. We are located in Cincinnati, OH and will travel up to two hours (and sometimes a little longer!) to find some of the most challenging and rewarding day hikes in the region. This includes crossing the Calaboose to find Red Byrd Arch in the Red River Gorge, the exploring the region between the Moonville and Kings Switch Tunnels out at Zaleski, bushwhacking around the old abandoned Vastine Quarry at Shawnee State Forest and visiting the caves, cliffs, and arches near Messmore Cliffs in Indiana.

We typically hike in smaller crews -- usually not more than twelve or so -- and keep up a brisk pace. We have been known to hike on unofficial trails or even non-existent trails and all participants should be ready and willing to tackle these challenges. Most of our day hikes are from eight to twelve miles long and will take several hours (or more!) to complete. Combined with a potentially long drive each way and a stop for some post-hike food and drink and camaraderie, these are typically all-day events.

We usually have a hiking event scheduled every Saturday. The infrequent Sunday hike or mid-week get-together also shows up on the calendar.

The occasional car-camping base-hike trip or backpack trip is not out of the question.

The ability to read a map, good trail sense, knowledge of proper equipment, and the constitution to maintain a stiff pace are good assets for a Trailblazer. Oh, a sense of humor and a thirst for adventure will help too!

I want to ensure that hardy hikers are joining, so prospective members must have a picture on their Meetup profile and answer the required questions.

Lastly, this group is not about creating a huge membership log. I'd like to keep in contact with those that like to hike. To that end, a member simply has to log into the group once every three months and maintain a profile picture. Those failing to do so may be subject to removal.

Well. That's about us. What about you? Are you ready to hike the long trails with us?
