Good morning everyone.
I wanted to thank everyone who made our meeting last Wednesday. There was a large number of attendees, and I apologize for not having enough seats for everyone!
On behalf of our meetup group, I also wanted to thank Farhad Khan, our guest speaker, who contributed the excellent presentation on frameworks for Rapid Web Application development.
He kindly posted his presentation file onto his website at the link below:
I also want to share some of the links we discussed on Wednesday:
1) Cleverness To-Do List (WordPress Plugin):
This plugin provides users with a to-do list feature.
You can configure the plugin to have private to-do lists for each user, to have all users share a to-do list, or to have a master list with individual completion of items. The shared to-do list has a variety of settings available. You can assign to-do items to a specific user (includes a setting to email a new to-do item to the assigned user) and optionally have those items only viewable by that user. You can also assign different permission levels using capabilities. There are also settings to show deadline and progress fields. Category support is included as well as front-end administration.
Meteor is an ultra-simple environment for building modern websites. What once took weeks, even with the best tools, now takes hours with Meteor.
The web was originally designed to work in the same way that mainframes worked in the 70s. The application server rendered a screen and sent it over the network to a dumb terminal. Whenever the user did anything, that server rerendered a whole new screen. This model served the Web well for over a decade. It gave rise to LAMP, Rails, Django, PHP.
Rate our meeting: For those who were at the meeting last week, please rate our meeting if you have a spare moment.
That's it for now, and thanks once again for making such an enjoyable and informative event. I look forward to seeing you next month.
