Studio & Lighting seminars:

We have several seminars covering all you need to know about the photo studio, strobes and lighting. This the perfect first step to becoming acquainted with Studio Photography! Workshops are full hands-on photo shooting using professional studio equipment that is provided.

• The basics (separate class): Learn how to use and setup Strobes and accessories and create basic lighting setups. Includes: softboxes, barn doors, snoots, umbrellas, reflectors, flash-meters. For complete beginners. View upcoming dates.
• Lighitng fundamentals (this session): Learn standard lighting techniques, from 3-way lighting to backgrounds, tonality control, and portrait lighting. Prior classes are not required but recommended. View more upcoming dates.
• Special effects (separate class): Bring your product or model and experiment with advanced lighting techniques, such as mixed lighting, product photography and beyond. Prior classes are not required but recommended. View upcoming dates.

The Lighting effects learned in this workshop are top notch and will provide you with solid experience in lighting that is applicable outside of the Photo Studio. Join us for this excellent opportunity to experience Photo Studio shooting without the extra cost of studio rentals and equipment.

Requirements: The basics of your camera's manual mode. Digital SLR or Point & shoot camera with flash mount and manual mode. You are welcome to bring your flash-meter if you own one!

This workshop is In person: Hybrid Indoors/outdoors
First two classes are outdoors and the remaining classes are indoors. Location will be in Union Square-Chelsea-Midtown. Exact location in Union Sq, Chelsea or Midtown will be selected based on the class size and emailed to you the day prior to class.

TTL Flash.
This course is a thorough training on using your flash in various modes: automatic, TTL, manual and off-camera. Students will learn special techniques for setting up creative lighting. Practice of direct flash, boucning, light mofifies, Flash accessories, freeze, motion, and multiple flashes as avaible.

Workshop includes weekly photo shoots and practice, as well as as assignments. Students will work with their own camera and flash units.

Requirements:
* Digital SLR or point-and-shoot with manual option and flash mount. We highly recommend DSLRs.
* Portable flash unit of any kind (other than camera's built-in). Note: If you have an older flash unit, some of the automatic options explained in class might not be available.

Level of Knowledge Assumed: solid camera knowledge. Manual mode recommended.

Course Structure Suggestion: Introduction to Photography, TTL Flash, Studio & Lighting, Wedding Photography (in this order or in parallel).

Portrait Beginners' guide - Learn the dos and don'ts of Portraiture
Welcome to Portraiture!. This workshop is a full guide to the fundamentals of portraiture. You'll learn: Posing, capturing the moments, Gestures, Body language, backgrounds, shooting angles, and directing and interacting with your subjects. Additionally, you'll learn how to work with simple lighting, including natural light, window light, and simple home made lighting tricks that will efficiently enhance the look of your subjects. You'll also learn environmental portrait and gaining speed in shooting.

This course is highly recommended whether you are shooting candids, studio type portraiture, or street and environmental.

Requirements: Any digital camera including Phone cameras and mirrorless with Automatic OR Manual mode. Though not required, we highly recommend knowing the basics of your camera. This course will not cover camera settings and the basics of shooting.

Course Structure Suggestion: This course covers all of the basics and we therefore highly recommend that it is taken before any other Portrait course.

Notes on film cameras: while most content of this course is applicable to digital cameras, you are welcome to attend as long as your film camera has an automatic shooting mode. Should the assigned instructor become suddenly unavailable, we'll allocate a substitute.

Seminar Portrait beginner (1-Sessions): May 17, Saturday 11:00 AM-2:30 PM.In-person: Outdoors

Seminar Portrait - the basics.
This class will introduce students to basics of portraiture composition, controlling and modifying artificial and natural light and accessories, as well as creative techniques and tips which will prove essential in most of your head shots, whether they are family portraits or commercial shots.

Requirements: Any cameras. Phones, Mirrorless, Point and shoot, or DSLR. No prior knowledge required.
Basic knowledge of your camera's function is recommended.
