We are a the folks from PhotoManhattan School offering free and affordable photography classes in NYC, workshops and photo exhibitions on a monthly basis. All our events are booked with photographers and photo students from our school and remaining spaces are regularly opened for free for the members of this group. Other events and classes may have a nominal fee. You won't be alone. Just walk in head to the front desk, mention that you come from meetup.com, we'll be expecting you. For other photo courses and online webinars please view a wide range of photo classes from street photography, through Studio & Lighting, to TTL flash.
At exhibits, you'll find tons of people, up to 45 at times, music, complementary snacks and beverages, friendly people, and great photographs! You may socialize as much as you like, or simply watch the students' photo series on your own. Exhibitions are open to everyone.
Free classes can be anywhere from 5 to 20 students. They are structured classes, not just talks. We offer remaining spaces for free at meetup.com as often as possible. Some have hands on or outdoor shooting, depending on their description.

Class information
This course is key for those of you looking to master color and tonality control with natural lighting, or expand into advanced and strobe or flash lighting. The power of Manual Mode with unleash a whole spectrum of new and exciting lighting effects posibilities and tricks that will make your photos look like pro!You'll learn how to achieve perfect whites and blacks, or simply a monotone effect, how to get that silky smooth blurred background, or completely tack sharp foreground when you want to and exactly as you want to. You'll be able to freeze action or capture slow light movement through Motion Blur Control, make mixed motion + freeze effects, high key and low keys, and take your exposure control to the next level in various lighting scenarios, including mixed lighting and white balance. You will also learn about doing in-camera special effects that you see all the pros do!
The full guide will provide you with the practical knowlege needed to work in studio with strobes, or setting up 3 point lighitng with off camera flash, but most importantly, you'll gain full control of your images' tonalities and overall mood under any lighting conditions.
Class structures are mixed with Photo Critiquing HW, Verbal Instruction and Hands-on Exercises. A mixture to cater to all learning types. Additionally, you'll develop your own photo project and will have the option to showcase at the end of the course (optional).
No need to be afraid of the Manual Mode on your camera anymore! If you have a camera that has the "M" mode you are able to unleash the full potential of your camera's technical ability. No more confusion over what each setting changes in your image! Get a full understanding of Manual Mode settings. Manual Mode unlocked!
Requirements:
* Any camera with manual mode (Aperture & Shutter speed control). Digital SLR, Point & shoot, Mirrorless, or film.
* The Camera's beginners' guide course (which is for Automatic mode cameras) is not required in order to take this course.
