London Playtest weekend meetup

The January Meetup will be on Sunday 19th January from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 17th January. Be sure to include the name of the game, the amount of players, the expected duration and a brief description. If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

Thanks again to all of the designers and playtesters who came to the London Playtest UK January meetup. Here is the BoardGameGeek geeklist, which lists all of the prototypes played last Sunday. Feel free to leave comments there, make additions or correct mistakes.

Great session. It was the first outing for my dice games. Thanks to Brett, Chris, Matt and Bez for their wonderfully constructive feedback.
Dave, your sheep zapping UFO'S game is great fun. I look forward to playing it with Lawrence's hyperdrive idea.

    5-stars as always!
    — Really solid and positive playtest of "Trailblazers". Thanks to Jenny, Dean and Chris for happily globetrotting along with me... good feedback and a clear direction for the next prototype.
    — Gavin's dice-flicking games were absolutely top-notch. Simply brilliant! A classic (actually 2 of them!) in the making.
    — Also nice to get Venice on the table again after a bit of a break. I won (which was nice!) despite my own efforts. Thanks to David, Gavin and Andy for all the feedback and commentary, and generally being good sports!

Hi All, I'll be bringing an updated Distant Worlds - now a big smoother to play and just as importantly with hexes that take up half the table space :-)

    1 · January 4, 2014

    • Chris K.

Turns out I won't be able to make it - need to prepare for a couple of job interviews next week! But if you could roll Distant Worlds forward to Feb, that would be great.

      January 18, 2014

    • Rob H.

Good luck with your interviews. Look forward to seeing you in February. Cheers, Rob

Sorry guys, the trains into London are running 2x slower today due to engineering, so I'm not gonna epic it in. Shame, I was looking forward to it!

    January 19, 2014

    • Rob H.

Weekend engineering works are the bane of London life, so much so that I drive in for the Playtest UK meetups. There is plenty of free parking nearby on a Sunday. Hope to see you next time. Cheer, Rob

Don't think I will be able to make this one after all =(

Ladies and gents, I have been battling one of these horrible winter viruses all week and have to admit defeat and cancel coming today, which is a real shame as I was really wanting to come. I will hopefully be there at the next one. I hope it goes well for all of you. Mat.

    Hi!

I'd like to do another blind playtest please, for folk who haven't yet played my party game. I'd like to get a few games played to test out the cards.

Can you do this - party game involving physical challenges. <15minutes. 2-??? players (4 preferred)

    1 · January 17, 2014

    • Rob H.

Hi Bez. Added to the list. (The last blind playtest left 4 blokes giggling like schoolboys.) Cheers, Rob

      1 · January 18, 2014

  • Brett G.

    Hey Rob!

Matt and I should also have with us a new version of "Venice" (now minus the very thing that originally defined it: the modular board). This game can replace the co-design Pyramids card game that Matt put on the list. I think we'd rather have a longer session with Venice than Pyramids, if that's OK?

Venice: City of Trade — 2-4p, 60-75 mins, light-strategy family-euro, trading and building game.

    Brett

    1 · January 17, 2014

Can I just say you'd have to be playing really slow and really seriously for Judtho to take 240 mins (4 h) - more like 120 mins tops…

    1 · January 17, 2014

    • Rob H.

Sorry, Rick. The entry has been corrected. Cheers, Rob

      1 · January 17, 2014

      1 · January 17, 2014

  • Andrew B.

Rob, I can't decide which of my current prototypes needs the most attention! So please put me down for two from Hold the Front Page (newspaper game, 2-6, 15 minutes per player); Art Dealer (art collection game, 2-5 players, 90 minutes); and Life's a Beach (2-4, deckchair tile laying game, 60 minutes).
