London Playtest meetup

The January London Meetup will be on Sunday 20th January from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

Some of the games to be playtested (TBC):

Hex-chit game - new game prototype (Behrooz Shahriari)

City of Guilds: The Dice Game (Andy Oakey)

Chocolate Factory (Lawrence Davies)

3 x Prototypes (Johan H.W. Basberg)

Thank you to everyone who defied the snow to come along to Playtest. Cracking meetup today and a very impressive turn out considering the weather conditions. At least 22 prototypes were playtested today, (I think there might have been a couple more in between games.) I got to play a psychic in a superhero game, run a chocolate factory and then lead the dockers union in City & Guilds. All great prototypes with a lot of potential. See you next time

Yes I will do, Andy. Very well presented dice game. I'm not sure if theres anything I woudl want to change really. Not just becasue i did so well, It could go with expansions too.

Hi andy. Preety much as lawrence said it is well presented, solid design, and easy to pick up. I liked it and can't think of anything i would change.

Chocolate Factory (my new Market trading game) is at a good stage, and has been fun to play every time. I've playtested it with my friends who've all been very polite. Now I need some honest feedback! It may just need balancing. 4 players ideally. I'm happy to sit out and observe.

As you may know I make wooden components, milk bottles shouldn't be a problem.

Lots of great ideas and feedback. Thankyou guys. Johan, those Wonka bars are just what I was thinking of! Can I use your graphic? I'd like to do one in each flavour. The health and safety ppl might have something to day if I make them look too good. and they break teeth on a baked haribo! :)

Hm, will I be able to enjoy the awesome photos taken by Katarina et.al.? I was hoping to get a hold of at least a couple of them.

    1 · January 21, 2013

Some photos uploaded, although I think there are more to come from Katarina and Phil.

Enjoyed my first meetup. Interesting cricket game that I sucked at, and thanks to the two people who played the card game I brought.

I'm driving up to Stroud this Saturday for Charlie and Alans designer day. I've got room for 3 passengers if anyone is interested. I'll be setting off from Ealing at 8am and returning 8pm (snow permitting) hour.

The trains seem to be working okay. I'm just heading into Vauxhall on SW Trains. Please check your route before you head out. We'll try and keep up-to-date with the traffic news during the meetup.

Hi Rob - unfortunately Steve is finding it difficult to drive out of the roads round his house and we won't be able to get up to the Meet. We'll try next time! Have a good one!

Morning everyone! According to the BBC News website, the snow isn't causing any London public transport delays at the moment: http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/londoncentral/publictransport/unplanned but there are some planned part closures of the extremities of some tube lines. See here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/track.aspx?offset=weekend

Argh I hope snow doesn't ruin the fun! :(

I don't get it. Are we sitting outside?

      January 18, 2013

    • Rob H.

No outside games this time, but it might be worth checking your transport options before you set out on Sunday. I'll post any localised TFL alerts here.

I might be playtesting some small pervasive games at the meetup on Sunday. These will be part of the coming Science Museum zombie festival: http://goo.gl/9QeqC

    • Lawrence

this sounds interesting. Are you taking your zombie game along to show it off?

I should get Amalgimal Zoo tomorrow so I'll come along. It's a card game with drafting and set collection and some attacking/stealing and stuff. Hoping to take lots of notes and get lots of feedback!

Re; UK GamesEXPO 2013 Hi Rob and Everyone who was a volunteer at EXPO2012 Playtest room,
I'm available to join you for 2013 in Birmingham. Not promoting my own games so I'd like to be a volunteer for the free entry pass. I would be v.happy to carshare/roomshare too as costs will be higher this year.

    1 · January 14, 2013

    • Rob H.

Playtest @ UK Games Expo 2013 is confirmed. I'm going to start organising it in February when I'm back from the Nuremberg Toy Fair. Everything should be bigger and better this year, as it is now at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham.

After some really interesting feedback last time, I've decided to trial a couple of sweeping changes to Scattered Fleet - but having got games to table every session for the last couple of months, I'll be happy to step aside in favour of somebody with something new!

    2 · January 12, 2013

    • Rob H.

Bring it along! We usually get to play at least one prototype per designer. Looking forward to seeing how it has developed.

      January 13, 2013

    • Lawrence

Hi Andrew, Really enjoyed Scattered Fleet last time. I think it has potential to be a stonking game!

      January 14, 2013

  • blunder1983 (.

My superhero game (2.0) is now ready for a prototype :D Rob I'm expecting great input from you :)

Also Agents of Smersh arrived, if you fancied a game before the main shindig? :O

Whoops didnt mean to finish my point. I'll try and tweak it for sunday but i'm really hoping for some help from you fine people in how I can improve it ;)

      January 13, 2013

    • Rob H.

Some of my prototypes have started with little more than an idea ;) Playtesting always manages to crystallise the idea in my mind.
