It was widely known that when one was faced with an issue such as bad luck, marital problems, money issues, relationship issues, illness, or depression, you would see a Shaman who would concoct a mixture of magical herbs to rid you of your problem. Depending on the content and problems, they would be used in a variety of ways, such as being burned as incense, placed on an altar, or carried around in a pouch. These herbs were also turned into magical oils which when placed on the body could have a powerful influence on another person. Oils were often used to attract a lover, ward off bad luck, increase luck, attract money, improve health and vitality, and to enlist favors from people. The oils could also be used to anoint objects. The property of the oil when fused with an object could be carried with the individual to perform magical feats. Most often oils where used to consecrate a home to keep negative people or spirits away, bring prosperity to the household, or attract wealth.

Every herb or oil has its own property, its own manner of infusing with its environment. It is these delicate differences that can be partaken of in air that permeate your psyche and the atmosphere. Herbs and oils emit powerful chemical signals that when strong we perceive as a scent, but that often affect us on a subconscious level. Because of the huge array of herbs, oils, and combinations, whatever issues you face there will be a natural solution that can assist you.

It is also of interest that plants including herbs can communicate with their environment, be that other plants, the surrounding areas, or, some believe, the Gods. It was commonly held in previous ages that each God or deity has a particular herb they love to work with and if you use their herb properly the Gods will favor you and bestow blessings. While belief in Gods is not a precursor to the effectiveness of herbs and oils, it helps with healing to focus on where one is asking of help from. We all know that regardless of what we call it, there is an interconnectedness to the world, and this interconnectedness between the herbs and everything else is the basis of the divine order of the Goddess Maat.

But of most importance is looking at the whole instead of the pieces to remedy the ills we face in society. This is why magical herbs are so powerful. They affect everything we experience and seek to bestow fortune and balance in a person’s life. If picked correctly (such as in some cases during a full moon) they retain much of their power and are beneficial in a variety of ways.
