Join us for an evening at Stoup Brewing. We'll welcome back old faces and welcome new ones. This is an informal format -- feel free to bring a laptop if you want and work on projects or use this event as an opportunity to catch up and meet new people.

Stoup serves mainly beer and some cider, hard seltzer, slushies and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages including coffee. They also welcome you to bring in your own food if you want.

Lightning talk: Transformation Bias in Machine Learning
Speaker: Brandon Sherman
Description: We’ve all been there - you fit a model to predict log(y), but you want the predictions on the original untransformed scale. Unfortunately, exponentiating the prediction will systematically underestimate the expected value of Y! This is transformation bias. In this talk, I’ll discuss why transformation bias is a mathematical guarantee in this setting, and will walk through several approaches for correcting it.

Talk #1: Beyond the Prompt: The Frontier of AI Coding
Speaker: Tyrell Towle
Description: AI is transforming software development, but generating code is only the beginning. Modern coding agents can navigate repositories, write and execute programs, test their work, and tackle increasingly complex projects. Yet significant challenges remain in reliability, context management, autonomous execution, and verifying the correctness of AI-generated software.
This presentation explores the current state of AI-assisted programming, recent research into coding agents and their supporting harnesses, and emerging approaches to overcoming their limitations. We'll examine challenges in long-running development tasks, agent orchestration, and the evaluation of coding performance.
We'll also discuss practical tools and techniques for improving AI-assisted development, including structured coding workflows, independent verification, and running local language models with llama.cpp. Examples will illustrate how these technologies can be applied to real-world software development and research projects.

Talk #2: Agentic Validatation
Speaker: Rohit Musti
Description: Many systems require either manual validation or full
integration/smoke tests. These tests tend to be brittle and
susceptible to non critical changes (e.g., slightly modifying the
accessibility tree) causing alarms even though nothing broke for the
end user. In this talk, I hope to shed light on some examples of how
we built a lightweight harness to use leverage agents to manage these
flows and self improve.

What to bring:
Since this is a talk format meetup, you don't need a computer. F5 Networks is providing food.

Building access:
The building is accessible from the street via an entrance on 5th Avenue. The event is on the 48th floor.

Parking:
The F5 Tower garage is open until 10pm and rates are $19 to $21 for 2 and 3 hours respectively. There are also additional garages and street parking in the area.

Transit:
F5 Network's offices are within walking distance of numerous buses on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, avenues and the Pioneer Square link station.
