What we’re about
Welcome! Welcome to the Hau`oli Strummers Ukulele Club of San Diego. Hau’oli is Hawaiian for happy and that’s what we are. We are a great community of uke players who get together to strum, sing, learn, teach, share, and most of all, have fun. We welcome anyone and everyone to join us.
Skill Level We welcome all skill levels from the newest uke noobs to total uke stars. If you’ve never strummed or sung a note in your life, our club is a great place to be. The strum-along format makes it easy to join in while you’re learning. If leading a song is your jam, there are plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Music We play a wide variety of music including Rock, Pop, Country, Standards, Hawaiian and more. Over the years we have compiled a great Hau'oli Strummers Songbook and a Google Songbank containing the songs we play at our music jams. Songbooks are available as a free PDF and hard copies are available for sale or loan at the meetings. A link to the Songbank is included on the Meetup event descriptions.
When Our main meetings are on Tuesday nights starting at 6:00 or 6:30 (depending on location) and ending between 8 - 9 pm. We participate in other events too. Click the 'Events' tab above for more information. Join us at a Tuesday Night Meetup jam; it's super fun.

Warm summer nights in colorful Spanish Village... our favorite summer location is back... join us al fresco in Spanish Village in Balboa Park. This is our Third Tuesday location and will temporarily replace Campland which gets extra busy in the summer. Whether you're a beginner or have been playing for years, everyone is welcome.
We will start by playing the setlist linked below and then take a short break. For the second hour, Members choice... choose songs from our Hau'oli Strummers Song Bank, with the option of leading the song (or not, that's ok too). Our goals are to have fun and to enjoy music in a safe, encouraging environment. We hope you join us!
Please bring a chair if you like to sit. We will be projecting the songs, but feel free to bring a tablet using the music links below. Dress for the evening weather.

SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2025, HAU OLI STRUMMERS ON STAGE at the San Diego House of Sweden's Midsummer Celebration outside the HOUSE OF SWEDEN by the INTERNATIONAL COTTAGES in BALBOA PARK. This is our annual Swedish Midsummer Celebration performance.
Enjoy Swedish meatballs with lingon, pickled cucumber and bread, available at the House of Sweden from Noon to 4pm.
Come early to get set up. The Stage Performance starts at 2:00 p.m. with costumes and a Swedish Flag Procession followed immediately by HAU OLI STRUMMERS UKULELE CLUB playing hit songs by Swedish pop groups ABBA, Avicci and Blue Swedes. After that the celebration will include very fun and amazingly popular Swedish Maypole Dances for the young and young at heart to celebrate the first days of summer Swedish-style.
BRING YOUR UKE and a MUSIC STAND. An iPad/tablet would be nice, but we will try to have paper printouts to share and clothes pins so they don't blow away. We are posting a link to a DOWNLOADABLE or PRINTABLE file with the songs and we plan to practice at our Tuesday Meetups between now and June 22. We will stand on the low stage to play and sing.
We recommend you try to arrive at Balboa Park BY 1 PM to allow time to park and walk or shuttle to the House of Sweden and get tuned up and set up with your ukulele and music.
You're encouraged to WEAR SWEDISH COLORS BLUE AND YELLOW.
PARKING behind the Organ Pavilion or the adjacent parking lot, OR even easier is across Park Blvd by the old Navy Hospital and walk or take the Balboa Park Shuttle.
