We'd like to applaud REI for deciding to #optoutside on Black Friday, closing their retail stores, and paying their employees to go outdoors! So join us in opting outside for a short 4-6 mile hike near New Hope, PA. We'll meet at the Delaware Canal State Park Virginia Forrest Recreation Area parking lot on River Rd (PA-32), 1.3 miles north of PA-263 and the Stockton River Bridge.

This will be an out and back again hike along some beautiful back roads in Solebury Township. Our turn around point will be in the David R Johnson Natural Area, a small 56 acre forestry tract with great songbird and woodpecker habitat. The hike will be on paved and dirt roads, beginning and ending at Virginia Forrest Recreation Area. A small portion of the hike will be along PA-32 (River Rd.) but mostly we'll be hiking quieter back roads through the Solebury countryside. Some of the terrain involves gradual hills, about 300 ft up and down several times.

Hike will be weather dependent and will cancel in the event of cold, rainy weather. Bringing water, a snack and wearing blaze orange is recommended. Archery deer and some small game hunting are permitted on the forestry tract. Binoculars will also be helpful for getting to look at the resident birds up close.
