What we’re about
Meet other freethinkers, atheists, agnostics, nonbelievers, and humanists in the greater Sacramento area. We gather to discuss beliefs and philosophies, hear provocative speakers, and make new friends. We have guest speakers, book discussions, film screenings, potlucks, and other social events.

See all- Film and Discussion Night On ZoomLink visible for attendees
Coming to your home theatre by Zoom! The Reason Center of Sacramento will host a monthly movie night where we will share movies and discuss afterward. The Reason Center has an MPLC License (https://www.mplc.org/page/the-umbrella-license), which allows us to legally show copyrighted films and TV programs in public spaces as long as we follow a couple of simple rules:
- We can't make any money from showing these films - no problem, we would dream of charging admission!
- We can't publish movie titles on public platforms like meetup.
So, to abide by that second rule, we'll tell you generally that the movie will either be some historical piece or biopic focused on the heroes of the humanistic and secular movement, or we may occasionally enjoy some fun comedy or cartoon, so long as it will lead to a good discussion, afterward.
We will discuss future films to show at the end of each event, or if you see us in real life or a Zoom meeting, we'll be happy to tell you what movie we plan to show next. So stay tuned! - Highway CleanupElk Horn Park and Ride, Sacramento, CA
Energetic Sac-FAN members will partner up with sister group Atheists and Other Freethinkers (AOF) to clean nasty litter & debris from a two-mile stretch of Highway 99 just north of Elkhorn Blvd.
Join us to make a difference! Bag trash and pick up all kinds of mysterious and often edgy items. Anyone may help. This is a great event for older kids, too (but leave little ones at home, please).
Note: Wet conditions or poor visibility = cancelled event. If unsure, contact the Event Organizer (Don, 916-805-9337).
We've got Everything You Need:
The Organizer will provide grabbers, trash bags, gloves, colorful vests, and virtually everything else needed to help restore the environment.Getting There:
Our section of the highway is at the Elkhorn Blvd exit, just north of Natomas where the I-5 and CA-99 split.LOCATION MAP at https://bit.ly/34Rj76o
Meet at the Park & Ride lot located on Elkhorn Blvd, just west of the CA-99 freeway off ramp. (Go north from Sac on I-5, take the "Hwy 99 - Yuba City, Marysville" exit. Exit at Elkhorn Boulevard less than a mile north. Turn left, cross the overpass. The park-&-ride will be right there on your left.) If the P&R lot is not accessible, park on the south side of Elkhorn Blvd near it.
Why we Do It:
A San Francisco Chronicle article quotes a curator in the Monterey Bay Aquarium husbandry department as saying that “every year, plastic debris kills 40% of newly hatched albatross chicks… their parents see shiny things on the surf, ingest them and regurgitate them to the chicks. It’s a slow and painful death.”Our 2-mile stretch of Highway 99 north of Elkhorn Blvd. may seem far removed from the native habitat of the albatross, the ocean. And yet not an insignificant amount of refuse that we collect could ultimately be swept by the rain into tributaries and into the ocean a mere 85 miles away. This is an interconnected world.
Remember, we provide all the equipment needed to clean the area. We just need wonderful you!
