I will be giving two workshops at the Southern California Writers'
Conference on Presidents Day. It's my first time doing a conference and I
figured if there are SD writers who couldn't make the conference (or who did
go and want to talk about it) it would be nice to have a meet up afterwards
My idea is to try to recap and convey what I heard at the conference,
according to interest. I could also do a quick recap of my workshop
material if people are interested.
I will also be inviting writers from groups other than this one, in order to
have a bigger bunch with more meetup, and invite others who went to the
conference or to the SDSU conference this month.
I'll have some material there, including hopefully some my ebook syllabuses
from the workshops.
The topic of my talks at the con will be:
1. SELF PUBLISHING FOR PROFIT I have made living publishing my own books,
and it's more possible than people think. A lot more to it that slapping a
novel on Lulu, and while it doesn't work for everybody, it's possible to
make money publishing you work.
2. THE ONLINE EDGE: A NEW ROUTE TO PUBLICATION This is pretty exciting,
and definitely cutting-edge. The whole idea is a new way to approach
publication: not by submitting and waiting for years, but by undertaking new
tech publishing ventures at almost no cost to build readership and
"branding" as a means to publication... and immediate gratification along
the way. Some of this stuff is red-hot, emerging only in the last few
3. I might also be on a panel about making book video "trailers", a subject
on which I've written a fairly successful manual.
As I say, according to interest. But I think it could be a truly all-time
MeetUp for all concerned and invite you to make it. If you can come, please
let me know, or RSVP or something if possible.
Date, Time and Place are: 7:00 PM, Wed, Feb 17, All American Grill,
Hazard Center, Mission Valley
7510 Hazard Center Dr. #215, San Diego, CA[masked]
Hope to see you there
