Located in northeast Massachusetts, Plum Island is a barrier beach sheltering the Plum Island River, Plum Island Sound, and the mouth of the Parker River. The area between the islands and the mainland is grassland laced with tidal creeks.

We will start our kayak adventure at the Newbury Canoe and Kayak and head downstream  of the Parker River to Plum Island.  The plan is to paddle past Dole Island to Plum Island River, Plum Island Sound, and then to settle beachside at Plum Island for  a snack/water break before heading back.

Open to all Sea and recreational kayaks 12 feet or longer.

Approximate time: 4-5 hours (with a snack/ break beach side).

Total distance will be between 8 and 10 miles.  Figure on an average paddling speed of 2-3 MPH.

Note: We may encounter some boat traffic and or swells caused by wind, current or tide. We can try to avoid them as much as possible by staying in more protected areas.

This event has been classified as a Level 2 event. If you don't know what a Level 2 paddle is please refer to this web site: http://www.nspn.org/trip-levels/

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
