Details

Come join us for our Thursday Morning HAM Training ride. (Hills Around Magnolia)

The ride starts promptly at 6am at Gasworks. We leave the lot a 6:01!

If you haven't attended an SGLTG event before, please show up 15 min early so you can sign a waiver (http://sgltg.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/SGLTG-Waiver-Form-01-14-15.pdf) and the ride leader can explain the route and answer any questions you may have.

Please send a message to the ride leader via meetup if you would like to meet earlier. They would be glad to help you with any minor bike or gear related questions/issues.

Here is the route - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7161688

The loop around Magnolia is 6 miles. Once you make it back to the intersection of Gilman and W Emerson, you can choose to do another loop or roll back to Gasworks.

Each loop may take you 20-30 minutes.

For an added challenge, throw in Discovery Park Blvd on your last lap! This one is guaranteed to push you to your limit!

The first three miles on the South Ship Canal Trail will be used as a warmup. Please keep it under 15MPH and share the trail!

The ride leader will lead the pack and regroup on the hills for the first lap (6 miles). After that, you can set your own pace and do as many loops as you want. You can ride at a social pace, or if your training calls for it, you can hit the hills in Zone 5!

The goal here is to learn how to pace yourself on hills, not to attack them as hard as you can. You can push the pace, but keep the work up once you get over that hill. Over time, your body will adapt and you will find yourself going faster up the hill at a lower heartrate and your recovery time over the top will go down. These are great signs of improvement!
I recommend using a HRM (Ride in Z2/Z3) and an app like TrainingPeaks or Strava so that you can see your improvements over time.

After the ride, Ill see you at Milstead for a coffee, or YellowDotCafe for breakfast.
