Frequently Asked Questions- FAQ's

What is the average pace of the runners in this group?
As you can imagine with such a large variety of members showing up for different group events throughout the week it is difficult to predict who will show up, but we have all levels of runner in this group. We try and have something for everybody and do our best to encourage everyone interested in being more active.

How much does it cost for membership in the Seattle Green Lake Running Group?
Our main goal is to create a community of runners that support and encourage each other and to us the value of that far exceeds any cost or price tag, so this group is free. It would be fun to charge those members that don't show up to see if that might inspire them to get started.

Does this group have anything for new/beginner runners?
We actually have a group that joins in on our Saturday morning runs called the "Lakers," and they are made up of members that are new to running, getting back into it, coming off of an injury or just trying to increase their fitness level. The Lakers do one lap around Green Lake utalizing a walk/jog ratio of 1 minute of walking and 4-5 minutes of jogging all the way around the lake. The Lakers was created as a way to help those folks fitting into the above category build up their stamina and endurance in a way that would safely allow them to have a positive experience with running and hopefully stick with it.

How do I go about getting started with the group?
The easiest way to pick out the events that work best for your schedule throughout the week and RSVP for those runs that you are able to attend. Each event identifies the time and meet up location and we are usually pretty easy to spot (just look for a group of runners standing around visiting).

Does this group offer any type of training programs?
We have a variety of runs throughout the week and each run can be tweaked in a way to align with your needs for pretty much any particular race or event that you are training for. Monday's are primarily dedicated to speed work and each week you will find a new challenge and variety to help improve your speed, running form and power. Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings can be used as an ordinary running day or more like a tempo style run depending on your needs. Tuesday evening usually has a few different distance loops that they choose from and Wednesday morning just sticks to laps around the lake with 3 different lap times to choose from. Thursday evenings are lots of fun and you can join in for a lap around the lake with other group members starting at 6pm and the way to the last lap at 7pm. They also head out for dinner and drinks after for those interested in some after run socializing. Saturday mornings we meet up for our long runs and members generally post their distance needs on the Saturday morning meet up page with their RSVP during the week and then based on those requests routes are made up for those attending. All the routes will typically stick together for as long as each distance will allow before heading back to the start.

What is another way to communicate with the group and get my questions answered?
There are a few different options depending on your needs. You can send a message directly to the group organizers, event hosts, specific members, post a comment in the comment section on a particular event or join the Seattle Green Lake Facebook page and post questoins and comments that way (http://www.facebook.c....

Does this running group participate in specific races throughout the year?
There are popular races throughout the year that many of our members have collectively trained for and participated in as well as many of us just training for various races and finding others from the group that are also interested. If there is enough interest in a race from the group we will post it as a meet up event so people can RSVP for it and allow others to see who else will be running that race as well.

Does this group have any non running gatherings as well?
We will get together periodically for post race cellebrations and that will be posted to the entire group for racers and non racers to attend and join in on the fun. We had an end of summer picnic this year that will hopefully become a tradition. You never know what might come up in the group and we are always open to suggestions and ideas.
