CANCELLED: Hubbard House Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

Sat 4/6, 8:00 am, 2013 Setting the Pace for Peace:  Hubbard House Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

The walk, being held at The Jacksonville Landing, is a FREE, fun, family-friendly event which includes games, activities, music, a 2-mile walk route overlooking the beautiful downtown Jacksonville skyline and the St. Johns River, and more. A shorter 1-mile walk route is also available.  Family Fun Zone begins at 8:00am, and the actual walk begins at 9:00am.

We will meet on the southeast corner of S. Hogan Street & Water Street, outside the Landing itself no later than 8:15 am and then get ready for the walk.  There are numerous parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the Jacksonville Landing, and with the event being held on a Saturday should allow for ample parking.  Street parking in metered spaces on Saturdays is free also.

For more complete information, and to register as an individual participant (to have your walk count towards volunteer hours), please go to Hubbard House’s website at and resister to join a team.   It is important to register online (I registered the team Sidetrackers, so register as one of it’s team members) as soon as possible so that the organizers can provide enough water and volunteers for the event.  If you need help with registration or other information, you can contact Ashley Johnson Scott at Hubbard House at[masked] extension 212.   Once you register with the team, you will receive emails from Hubbard House with further critical information about this event, including parking and weather for the day of the event.

By participating in the Setting the Pace for Peace Walk, you are making a difference in the lives of women, children, and men who have experienced domestic violence.  I am not ashamed to admit that I am a survivor of domestic violence both as a child and as an adult, and I volunteer every week at the battered woman’s center.  So come, have fun, meet new people, and enjoy making a difference in changing a societal issue!

Due to a family medical emergency, I am sad to say that I have to cancel this as a Sidetracker event. However, I do hope those of you who RSVP'd yes will gather as a group and support Hubbard House and their efforts to wipe out all Domestic Violence!!!

Although this will not be a sanctioned Sidetracker's event, comments and photos from those of you who do attend are encouraged and very welcome to be posted on the Sidetrackers meetup webpage.

I sincerely apologize for this last minute cancellation!

The walk is set for Saturday...the head count is at 13 so far...yayyyy! Now, it is very important for those of you who have not yet gone to Hubbard House's website to register as soon as possible! No donation is required, but registration is critical for the organizers. Please help out by doing so! Thanks!!

I have been asked by the organizers of this event to post to my group that there is less than one week left, and they need a fairly accurate counting of how many will be participating. So far, only 4 others besides myself have registered online as requested. PLEASE register as soon as possible so the organizers can effectively prepare for the event. Thanks!

Wow...I am very pleased to see so many coming out to support this event!! DON'T FORGET TO GO TO THE HUBBARD HOUSE WEBSITE LINK AND REGISTER AS A MEMBER OF THE SIDETRACTER'S TEAM! This is how the organizers plan for enough water and volunteers for this event. So far, only 1 person has registered online besides myself. Thanks so much for your support!!!!

Please be sure to register online as soon as possible to help the organizers prepare for the event with water, etc. Hubbard House depends heavily on donations from the community, and although it is NOT a requirement for any participant to do so, donations are always welcome. Even a $1.00 helps! Just a request from a survivor and volunteer....
