Livingstone Traverse

Details

Several years ago, I hiked Windy Peak and Mt Livingstone on separate trips. I would like to return to this area to complete the traverse.

Please note that this trip is for advanced hikers only! In keeping inline with Slow and Steady, I will be hiking at a pace on par with this meet up group but you should be able to hike the distances and elevations and be comfortable with a full-on day of hiking. Don't even think of making any other plans this day.

A friend of mine from CMSC recently did this trip and has shared some key numbers found below. This is a big day out! Lots of ups and downs. My friend indicated there are two sections of post holing. One of which just before Windy Peak summit which could be avoided. The other between Saddle and Mt Livingstone.

I am going to create a waitlist for this trip and ask that you sign on to the waitlist first. Please answer the questions upon signing up and once I can confirm your ability to do this trip, will place you on the confirmed list. I am open to taking about 8-9 people on this trip.

Windy Peak, Mt Hornecker, Saddle Mountain and Mt Livingstone are in the Livingstone range and can all be bagged in a day. Before starting hiking, we will set up a shuttle by dropping a vehicle off at the logging road SW of Mt Livingstone. We will drive back to "The Hump" trailhead on highway 532. From there it is a 5.5km ridge-walk up to Windy Peak. We have to go down and then up for about 2.5km to get to Hornecker. Another 3.5km of ups and downs will get us to Saddle Mountain. A 3.5km slog will get us to Mt Livingstone and then it will be another 4.5km to get to the car

We will be heading up at a brisk pace with occasional breaks. There may be route-finding, bush-whacking, blood-sucking ticks, post-holing, scrambling and exposure! This is a big day with a lot of elevation gain and loss - please only sign up if you are comfortable with with this and are fit enough to keep up a good steady pace.

This trip will go ahead only if the weather looks good. Please check this event posting on the day of the event to make sure that it is still going ahead. If the weather looks unpleasant, this trip may be rescheduled.

Please arrive at the meetup location on time, with all the caffeine/food you need so that we can go straight out to the mountains.
