Prairie Mountain Exerciser - T3

  • Somerset/Bridlewood LRT

    Sommerset/Bridlewood LRT, Calgary, AB (map)

    51.045326 -114.058098

  • I will be doing quite a few sets of Prairie Mountain over the next few months, I'm hoping to slowly build a little bit of speed, but plan to specifically work on adding more weight/gear to the pack every time.

    Distance: ~7 km return

    Elevation Gain: ~700M

    Difficulty: T3 (With snow)
If unsure what this means, please familiarize yourself.

Estimated trip time: As with any mountain trip, expect and plan to be out for a good 12 hours (This doesn't mean it'll take this long, however if anything happens it prepares you.)

Trailhead: The trailhead is located on Highway 66, at the winter gate near Elbow Falls.

Recommended gear: Sturdy hiking boots, mitts/gloves, toque, gaiters, hiking poles, layered clothing with a waterproof shell, food and water - you can never have too much, thermos with hot drink of choice.

Microspikes are required at this time of year, absolutely no cotton clothing. Headlamps or some sort of light as it is dark.

Real-time tracking while we're out, feel free to share with emergency contacts. Be aware this is not always 100% and authorities shouldn't be called because it misses a few updates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me,[masked]-5356.

Waivers: As per the new policy for waivers; I will bring the group waiver form with me to both the Calgary Meetup location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this hike. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.

Hi Mike: will you be repeating this one next Friday Jan 25th? Prefer Fridays because no need to work the next day.

    • Mike S.

I will probably do this on the 25th as well, yes.
