WTF is a Monad? w/ Uncle Bob Martin

Watch Uncle Bob use Clojure to stumble around this hideously complex topic and eventually give up and fail.

I agree with all of the feedback so far; this was a great talk. What I also appreciated was at the end when Uncle Bob was talking about what lead him into functional programming and how he was delighted that FP often solves problems in a very elegant way. This means a lot to me coming from someone with as much experience as Uncle Bob.

So like many devs, I've been an Uncle Bob follower for a while now and have introduced over time a lot of fellow colleagues to his books, vids, sites, yada yada. I also have a close friend which happens to remote pair with some guys at 8th light over at Cengage (small world) on the MindTap proj. Anyway, this was the first time to attend an Uncle Bob's session and it was great. I brought along a few colleagues form work as well.

    Summary:

Not only did I learn about functional programming and Lisp/Closures/Monads, but also about how the transition and reliance on SSD storage (non mechanical based) and cpu cores will eventually completely obsolete old disk storage and how that will dramatically require all developers to code differently and why that is.

We'll definitely be attending more 8th light sessions as well as more at Follett in the future...lot of friendly people here.

also thanks 8th light for supplying pizza.

Wanted to attend but have been slightly under the weather today and don't want to make the drive from Mt. Prospect and back. I recalled past presentations were archived somewhere but don't remember what website they are in, at least the more recent ones. Can any of you give me the link?
